Sources: Vick Suspension Near

From Yahoo's Jason Cole: "Two NFL sources said that commissioner Roger Goodell likely will announce this week or next the suspension of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick for the 2007 season." I expect Mr. Mexico to launch his professional wrasslin' career in short order. And the silver lining? He's already got a nickname.

I tell you last month Falcons new laughinstock of league. Raiders as worst team only last for one season and Raiders got three great QBs since then.
Vick career over.

Vick's life is turning into a blues song. Next, his woman will run off with a downtown man (he always said they shouldn't allow her on the street) his car will break down (that no-good Ford) and somebody will kill his dog (oh, wait).

THREE great quarterbacks? That's overkill. Not even raiderjoe would say that. What? Oh...

re4

yes, three great ones. Culpepper will be great again (takes a whole year to recover from his type of injuries). McCown to have good year (very athletic Qb). Russell oviosuly great. Will be next Elway. Won't play this year just like Bengals sit out C Plamer in 2003. expect Russell to put up huge numbers in 2008 just like when plamer did it in 2004 and Culpepper did in 2000 after siting on bench in 1999.

So what happens when Andrew Walters becomes the Raiders starting QB this year?

And the Falcons march towards Brian Brohm begins now

Given the severity of the charges, Vick's wrestling career will likely be confined to shackles on a bad day; his personal security benefiting from his celebrity status and herpes.

A Pay per View with him v Mike Tyson and Danny Bonaduce vs Tonya Harding as an undercard doesn't seem out of the question some 10 years down the line. Sunday SUNDAY SUNDAY!! The Vick Tyson experience, hosted by Joe Rogan, Lawrence Taylor and Willa Ford.

I don't understand why he would be getting such a severe suspension now. Why should the league suspend him when he hasn't been convicted of anything?

Executive Summery:
Lying to the commisioner is bad.
Illegal gambling when you're an iconic NFL figure is perhaps ill-advised.

A Walter not going to get much playing
time this season. He will be Russell backup in 2008. D Culpepper and J mcCown to have great seasons in 2007 and leave in free agency. Walter still going to be good Qb in this league. Did a lot of good thins last year but got hurt by bad line blocking scheme. T Cable to fix line this season. A Walter and J Russell to both sit this year and learn. Will be good 1-2 punch in league for many years like Montana-Young, Ekway-Kubiak, Manning-Sorgi, Lamonica-Stabler, and Mcnair-O'Donell.

I don't think Vick missing the 2007 season is unexpected at this point. However, if he is suspended it will open up a new level of intrigue regarding whether or not the Falcons release him and attempt to recover some of his bonus money.

I didn't see the game, but Harrington's stats looked pretty good from the first preseason game.

I figured that they would use the gambling bit in order to suspend him, and they should.

BTW, for all of the dog lovers out there, don't fool yourself. The feds don't care about the dogfighting anywhere near as much as they care about the illegal gambling, tax evasion, and illegal interstate commerce. Recall that all of this started with a bust of one of Vick's friends over drugs...

Re: 8 - Pacman Jones is asking the same question. It's about PR. The league does not want its image tarnished. Making negative headlines is enough to warrant a punishment now.

Re: 12 - Harrington's preseason stats are always good. A couple years ago, he completed 100% of his passes in one game.

Joey Harrington appears to be headed for the Brian Griese career path. To quote PFP 2006: "Always pegged as a backup, he always seems to be starting by week 10."

This has taken me forever to figure out.

The league is disputing this report, saying their internal investigation isn't over yet, so they haven't made up their mind yet.

But, to quote from the linked story:
According to the report, the NFL has examined the indictment at length and has conducted an investigation of its own. The league has not interviewed anyone associated with the case, but it has pored over numerous public documents.

How long exactly should it take to review the public documents related to this case? An afternoon, perhaps?

by emcee fleshy (sd/atl) (not verified) :: Mon, 08/13/2007 - 4:37pm

True, the NFL denied that they have officially decided to suspend Vick.

But nobody in either LA or ATL believes that Vick will play a down this season. So it really doesn't matter what they've "officially" decided. #7 has been subtracted.

#19,
It probably matters to Vick's wallet.

#7:

Willa Ford? Now there's a name I haven't heard in a while.

#20:

Glad to see you finally come around to our side. So, what finally made you see the light?

I don;t want to hear that Vick MAY be suspended, I want to hear that he's been banned for life. Nothing less will satisfy me.

And it's Raiderjoe's world, we just happen to be living in it.

#22 You might get your wish. PFT is reporting that Vick's remaining co-defendants are both going to cop a plea.

Strikes me that Ookie will have difficulty evading a conspiracy charge now.

22 - "our" side?

First, to be clear, I don't remember you, DolFan316. So this isn't necessarily directed at you.

But I'm not on any "our side." It's still clear that there has been plenty of racism underlying criticisms of Mike for years.

So, I am not backing down on anything I said before. I staunchly defended him from that stuff, while conceding that there were some valid criticisms to be made.

Then, the dogfighting indictment set forth enough detail to convince me that he at least tolerates, very probably supports, and probably participates in, his friends' utterly unconscionable activity.

Notably, the burden of proof for a criminal conviction is higher than the burden of proof for me deciding somebody's a jerk. I decided not to defend him anymore after the water bottle. Then I decided to bail on him entirely after reading indictment.

Some folks have a lower burden of proof, and I don't have a problem with that. My issue was always with people who decided he was a bad guy upon seeing his face. Those people are still wrong.

A last note: When forced to discuss these sorts of things, I always talk about "racism", rather than "racists" - because it's not an identity, it's a habit. And people who do it can stop.

Just when Vick didn't think it could get worse, now all three co-defendants look to be accepting plea deals. This according to Vick's hometown (and my) local paper. Link at my name.
