Brandon Marshall Loses Battle with Entertainment Center

It isn't that this is the best all-time goofy injury that happened to a sports star (my favorite is still former outfielder Kevin Mitchell, who somehow injured himself while eating a cupcake), it's the quote that Broncos receiver Brandon Marshall had for NFL.com's Adam Schefter after he apparently slipped on a McDonalds wrapper at home, tried to break his fall, and put his right arm through his entertainment center.

"I want to thank everybody for their concerns and let everyone know that I'm okay," Marshall texted Schefter on Sunday morning. "It's funny because I pride myself on YAC (yards after catch) and being one of the toughest players to take down once I have the ball in my hands.

"So for the next couple of days I'm going to take the time to build my confidence back up after allowing that McDonalds bag to take me down and send me through the entertainment center."

The injury required stitches and a cast, and Marshall has been advised to avoid wrestling with his furniture for at least two weeks.

UPDATE: Oh, brother. Schefter's updated report indicates that Marshall didn't slip on a McDonalds bag/wrapper; he was actually wrestling with a family member when he went through the entertainment center. The arm injury is also more severe than originally indicated. He could be out of commission for three months.

I saw "loses battle" in the headline, then a word beginning with "c", and immediately assumed the worst. It's been that kind of offseason.

A good weed supplier would have the Broncos couchlocked, not stumbling around.

Any word on whether a weiner dog was involved?

It's bad enough that Hole in the Zone is better than him but now Jason David has to live with the fact that a McDonald's bag can stop a receiver better than him too.

Any word on whether or not the Pats are considering bringing in the bag to audition for one of the vacant CB spots?

Nice to see McDonald's doing their part. I'll be sure to patronize one of their restaurants this week.

Christ... Well, at least he wasn't driving drunk or participating in some sort of weird domestic disturbance at the time... As far as we know. I love Marshall, but he's going to make my head explode if he keeps being involved in weird stuff.

He needs to hire the lawyer that represented the lady that was attacked by their coffee in the drive-thru. What's next, exploding Happy Meals?!

I write this right before 2005 season start and it still ture.

Jake Plummer not sh-ting the bed in big games. How many playoffs games have Broncos won since Elawy retired. You finish 8-8 that is great season.

13 - You mean you wrote that right before the season that the Broncos went 13-3 and made it to the AFC Championship Game? Wow, what awful timing to predict that the Broncos would have an unremarkable, totally average (or worse) season. You would have been very close to right every single year since Elway retired, except 2005.

by Raiderjoe (not verified) :: Mon, 03/24/2008 - 12:38pm

yeah but they still lose playoff game at home in 2005 season.

so I made a bad predicion that year, it bound to happen every once in a while
I cant be write all the time

The unintended irony in that sentence is one of the most amazingly hysterical things I've ever seen.

McDonalds bag?

Sure! And Jeff Kent broke his hand washing his car, Zumaya hurt himself playing guitar hero, Sosa hurt himself sneezing, etc., etc...

I am confused--where did he LOSE the battle with the entertainment center? Sure, he took some damage to the hand, and it may be more costly than a truckload of the cheapo furniture pieces... but given that his hand went THROUGH the damn box, karate-style, I think he won (a Pyrrhic victory, but still, he won)!

Be afraid Mike SHanarat- you unleash your worst nightmare in Javon Walker.

Brandon Marshall who is that? I don't remember that Wr too much ,when raiders play Denver. MAybe because hes N Asomugha - B--ch.

Lets see what J walker going to in Oakland. Better RBs, Better Fbs, Better Tes, Better Oline(Raiders were sixth leading rushing team and Better QB. Add a
Better Defense than Denver. And Denver looks like a third place team,at best in the west.

I had a feeling this might be a little bit bigger news than first reported ... here's today's espn headline:

Broncos' Marshall may reportedly miss 3 months after surgery

Link on my name.

So are we about to see the brandon stokely / keary colbert receiving corps unleashed on unsuspecting secondaries across the NFL?

Actually, I'm not sure you can 'unleash' that pairing. (sigh)

A WR in the first couple of rounds looks even more likely now.

25
by Bronco Jeff (not verified) :: Wed, 03/26/2008 - 3:09am

...make that four months Marshall will be missing.

Sigh.

Thank goodness the NFL's offseason is so damn long.

24: "A WR in the first couple of rounds looks even more likely now."

God, I hope not. If the Bronco offense goes horribly wrong next year, it will be attributable to turnover on the O-line rather than DIY mishaps. (The thing I'm most apprehensive about is replacing Matt Lepsis with last year's third-round pick.)
