Marques Douglas' tenure in Tampa was a short one, as the Ravens today sent a late 2009 pick and conditional 2010 pick to the Buccaneers to acquire their former defensive end.

A GREAT HOLIDAY GIFT FOR FOOTBALL FANS
"Football's first superstar played with a ballerina's grace and a bull's power, but as Poole shows in The Galloping Ghost, there was more. 21st-century fans will benefit from his reburnishing of the legend."
Sports Illustrated
"The book is a terrific read."

So, desperation, or luxury move?
Odd that a team adding depth to the DL is linked as an extra point...
From what I remember Douglas was always a competent, starting-caliber DE, and Rex knows what he can do since he was the DL coach when Nolan was the defensive coordinator. I guess he's better than Dwan Edwards, who never really developed into anything more than a 2nd string DE.
Since the Ravens defense is largely dependent on the health of Ngata, Gregg and Pryce, adding a guy who can play a good number of snaps per game w/o being a liability (along with Justin Bannan) is probably a good thing. Gregg and Pryce are old enough to need series off now and again in order to stay fresh and effective.
Looks to be smack dab in the middle.

Tomorrow on FO: "Team fires hot dog vendor, citing performance record".
I kid, I kid.
This gets an extra point, but no mention of Merriman opting to play despite unanimous medical consent that he should have season-ending surgery to repair the torn ligaments in his knee?

Contrariwise, I would say that the site tends to err on the side of having too few EPs.
And, #5, as I type this the ESPN story on Merriman has been up for an hour and ten minutes. Or was your point that the Marques Douglas story should have alluded to him?
#6 But the Merriman piece you speak of is not an XP link, is it? (at least not on my screen) I think THAT was the point. It's a pretty big deal in my mind and one might think FO would link to it. Then again, it's not exactly new news... as his injury has bene lingering and it's more of a "decision to ignore the docs" story now....
This is mostly a non-sequitur (though the Merriman story triggered it): Am I a johnny-come-lately on nationalfootballpost.com?
Among other things, they've got Mike Lombardi posting his take on the top NFL stories twice every day -- the morning column is the "Diner", and the evening one is the "Tavern". It's not bad stuff at all, but I'd never heard of it until Dan Pompei quoted something of Lombardi's in a Chicago Trib story.
I almost missed this link cuz it was in the former irrational spygate spot. Whew, it's finally gone!
In other news, the Ravens signed some guy I never heard of to replace some other guy I never heard of. I bet the media wishes Strahan had strung the Giants along for a while so that they could have a new Favre-esque storyline to beat us over the heads with
#8:
Wow, what a good site. Yeah, I'd never heard of it, and I thought I was pretty up on the (paltry) veins of good football writing on the web. Thanks for the tip.
