NFL Distribution Map For Week 1

One of the most valuable and stupendous websites on the Internet has returned for the 2008 season -- J.P. Kirby's Week 1 NFL TV Distribution Map is up, allowing fans across the country to check out what games they'll get this upcoming weekend.

In an even cooler move, the details are now laid out on a Google map.

What's interesting is that one station, Birmingham's WRBC, has decided to leave the choice for NFL Game of the Week up to the fans each week. No word on whether votes from outside the area matter, since I suggested San Francisco vs. Seattle without getting any complaints.

Are there any NFL cities that would pick another team's games over its own?

jeez Jets-Dolphins, with Phil Simms calling the game? time to find a local bar.

I'm excited about TB-NO with Billick calling it. i think a coach in the booth might actually bring some football related content. Who was the last head coach to do in game commentary not named madden? jerry glanville?

Wow. No love for Jags @ Titans? Seems like it could be one of the best games this weekend. From, you know, the point of view of wanting to watch to good teams play each other.

Am I the only person wondering how quickly FOX affiliates are going to be cutting away from that godawful late game? Cleveland's gonna be real bad.

Cutting to what? Their other options are SD-CAR, which most of the country sees as an even bigger mismatch, or ARI-SF, which nobody wants to see.

damn, why are the good games always blacked out in Turkmenistan?

I see we're getting the FOX games as the designated "international games". Sigh...

i didn't think that site could get any more uber, but it did.

"Who was the last head coach to do in game commentary not named madden? jerry glanville?"

I Saw Dick Vermeil do an NFL Network game last season, and he was very goo.

Yeah great. Jets-Dolphins in Indianapolis. Thank you Brett; now I can just go ahead and tailgate all day instead of sitting home to watch the 1:00 pm game first.

Two Phila notes:
1. We seem to get a disproportionate number of Eagles' games covered by Moose & Goose every year.

2. And, as always, the CBS affiliate assumes we care about the Steelers to the exclusion of almost all other options

8 Oh yeah i can't believe i forgot about him. Vermeil is excellent.

Nice. There's really only one improvement I would want from this site: For the non-double-header network (CBS, this week), they really should indicate the kickoff times of the games being shown. I realize that, for week 1 this year, all the CBS games are 1:00 EDT kickoffs, but I had to run over to nfl.com to check that.

Can I pick Jets games in Eastern WI?

I kidd...

Bill - There are lots of people in Phoenix and Tucson that would dearly love to see the Cardinals permanently blacked out.

Not Bad.

Sky are showing, in Ireland and and the UK, the Thur night game and both Mon night games.

Also on Sunday there is a choice of two 6 (Jets Vs Dolphins & Saints Vs Buccs)& two 9 (Browns Vs Cowboys & Chargers Vs Panthers) o'clock games plus the late night game as well

That's pretty good slate of games for us UK viewers! As a Miami fan I'd like to watch them but it means an early re-acquaintance with The Cretin. Combine that with the fact that him and Nantz are bound to go Farvalicious, and I don't know if I can handle that...

I'm guessing not too many in week 1. I'm guessing a lot more in Week 11.

I hope the Steelers are sold to an ownership group who moves them to LA so I don't have to put up with this scheduling nonsense ever again.

Of course everyone complains about getting the Jets - Dolphins instead of Jags - Titans, while I'm a Dolphins fan stuck in the Jax media market. Thanks Jags. Move to LA already, kthx.

I'm not sure that using Google maps makes this cooler. It seems to take longer to load.

22

I may be reading the maps wrong, but it seems like a lot of AFC markets are only getting one game this week.

Middle East TV broadcasting live to Israel from Cyprus says:

WEEK #1:
Game 1 starts at 8 pm KC at New England

Game 2 starts at 11:15pm Dallas at Cleveland

WEEK #2:
Game 1 starts at 8 pm Indy at Minn

Game 2 starts at 11:15pm New England at Jets

Wow... the maps make it undeniably clear just how bassackwards the NFL-TV trust is and how poorly it serves the viewers.

Opening weekend of the most profitable professional sports-entertainment league in the country and most of the country will see the same three games.

Brilliant.

by Joe Rowles (not verified) :: Wed, 09/03/2008 - 5:50pm

The good news is I don't have any game to worry about until the 8 or so since I am stuck with Lions/Craplanta and Miami/Farves

27
by zlionsfan (not verified) :: Wed, 09/03/2008 - 10:05pm

And that Detroit/Atlanta game gets the cellar team of Vasgersian and Pearson.

I wonder if they've improved any from last season.

(thinks)

Well, I guess I can always mute the sound while I'm charting ...

I just go to a sportsbar every week so I don't have to deal with the NFL's scheduling nonsense. It makes Sunday sooo much better.

I'm willing to trade the 49er games for any other team, including local high school JV squads.

I don't see a map, i just see his schedule of the national games. Is there a link I need to click or is the site messed up or what?

great idea though...
