The idea behind this column is simple: NFL kickers are more consistent kicking off than they are kicking field goals. But until I did the research for this article, I had no idea just how dramatic the difference really is.

Here are the fourth annual FO midseason projections. This year, projections say the surprise team of the second half will be Chicago -- and not in a good way.

You know, I almost wrote about Taylor's problems in this week's Pittsburgh DVOA comment, but I just felt like I needed a week where my Pittsburgh comment was a little less serious. Anyway, Ike Taylor has been a problem for quite some time. When we first started analyzing the 2005 charting data, I was stunned at how often opponents picked on Taylor. Then I watched the Super Bowl, where the Seahawks threw at Taylor over and over, no matter which receiver he was covering.

Surprise! I had no idea that Toomer had even suffered a knee injury on Sunday. Toomer is old, but he was a reasonably useful second receiver this year. Between this and the Michael Strahan injury, the Giants' Super Bowl hopes have really taken a turn for the worse this week. Sinorice Moss can't seem to get healthy either, which means that Plaxico Burress -- who himself has injury issues -- will start opposite, um, I dunno, Tim Carter? David Tyree? Neither of those guys is really a starting-quality wideout.

There are two big non-divisional rivalry games on the NFL slate this Sunday. One is a geographical rivalry which matters more to fans than to players. The other rivalry is bitter and angry, but come on, you know you would rather talk about the Chiefs and Rams. Right?
