Week 15 DVOA Ratings

Here are the Football Outsiders team efficiency ratings after Week 15, along with Aaron's usual commentary for the math-o-phobic. One 12-1 team gets upset, two others almost lose, and the shake-up puts Philadelphia back in the top spot -- but with an asterisk. The best team in a T.O.-less league? Hold on to your seats, Manning bashers, here come the Colts. Also, who is the favorite in the NFC with Owens on the sidelines -- and which AFC team could they possibly upset in the big game?

TMQ: All-Unwanted All-Pros

Our friend Gregg Easterbrook has more on the mediocrity of the NFC, his all-released All-Pro team, and his usual look at sweet plays, sour plays, good blocks, and chickening out. He also thinks the Patriots are a little distracted right now. Oh Notre Dame, why do you hurt us?

Snap Judgment: Eli in Trouble

I'm setting new records for mean e-mail with today's Snap Judgment QB ratings at ESPN.com, thanks to a look at quarterbacks whose rookie years were similar to Eli Manning. Let's get the angry e-mails out of the way now. Yes, I know there are a number of reasons why Manning has struggled this season that have nothing to do with him personally. Yes, he had a very good game on Saturday and his numbers could look very different in two weeks. But the list of similar rookies is, shall we say, unpleasant, even after taking Saturday into account.

MMQB: The Kid Stays in the Picture

This week Peter King sings the praises of Eli Manning, criticizes Jake Delhomme for his play-faking ability, calls out Shaun Alexander for being a wuss (!), and tells an odd story about a woman at a bar with some really strange ideas about the NFL.

FO Chat at Baseball Prospectus

Here is the transcript of Friday's online chat at BaseballProspectus.com, with discussion of the future of the Lions and Seahawks as well as how the Colts will fare in the playoffs. Unfortunately -- I wish I could go back to change this -- I incorrectly remembered the peak ages of players by accident. It should be 28 for RB, 30 for WR, and 32 for QB, not two years younger for each.

Jacksonville -- an NFL Town?

If Jacksonville loves its Jaguars so much, why can't the team sell out the stadium? The Jaguars have put a tarp over 10,000 seats so they can broadcast locally. Did the NFL make a mistake putting a team in such a small market -- and is a Jaguar move likely down the road? The Sports Economist comments, based on this (free registration required) Orlando Sentinel article by David Whitley.

Prime Time Lights Shine on Playoff Contenders

When they schedule the Saturday and Sunday night games before the season starts, nobody knows if the teams involved will be battling for playoff position come Week 15. But this year, serendipity shined upon ESPN. Aaron has previews of the two important prime time games this weekend: Carolina vs. Atlanta and Indianapolis vs. Baltimore. I hear something big might happen in that second one.

Buffalo Stampedes to Second-Half Success

In the muddled NFC, a number of teams have turned slow starts into possible playoff position. But the superior AFC has its own turnaround success story. What is driving the Bills to a winning record this season? Don't let the Bills fool you with their four straight high-scoring games -- Buffalo is all about defense and special teams. Aaron investigates in this article, originally from Wednesday's New York Sun.

Week 14 DVOA Ratings

Here are the Football Outsiders team efficiency ratings after Week 14, along with Aaron's usual commentary for the math-o-phobic. This week, a long extended commentary on the whole "quarterback should only be judged by winning" controversy that just won't go away, and why you should take Carolina's top five defense with a grain of salt.
