New Falcons coach Bobby Petrino is going to allow Michael Vick to -- gasp -- call audibles at the line (hey!) if plays look doomed next season. No word on whether he will stop Vick from employing the offense solely to earn Madden Challenge Points.

Suspect there's a little bit more to this one than meets the eye. Well, the AP story's eye, at least.

The world's most dangerous football reporter, FOX's Jay Glazer, is reporting that the Cowboys are interviewing Norv Turner with the idea that he might be their next head coach.
One day, we will be able to figure out which coordinators are suited for head coaching jobs and which coordinators are not. I think it is safe to say that one of the ways we will be able to verify the validity of such a tool would be the appearance of Norv Turner as a member of the latter group.

Correlation is, apparently, always causation. Who knew?

I've already put one XP up with the Raiders picking a head coach. I'm not doing three.
And poor Monte Kiffin!
And, actually, I wonder if the Raiders were insistent on getting a USC assistant by hook or crook. Maybe the towel guy would've got the job if enough people had turned it down.

As per the request of about 10 people in the AFC Championship Game Preview Thread, Patrick Hruby's gorgeous piece on the media buildup to this game is probably the best thing you will read on Page 2 for months that has nothing to do with D.J. Gallo.

ESPN's "Experts" (sorry, Jaws) have all picked New Orleans to win this Sunday at Chicago. The only holdout? The mysterious Accuscore.
It should be noted that Vegas has the Bears anywhere from -2 to -3. In addition, I wrote a piece last week for Boston Sports Media Watch where I noted that cold weather teams playing host to warm weather teams, over the last 20 years, are 33-7 (.825); all home teams, on average, win 69% of home games.

I'm not sure if you're familiar with this concept, but...
Also, "Pro football is violent game and running backs arguably take the greatest amount of punishment." Did you ghost-write this column, Jason Mulgrew?

James Lofton is apparently discussing terms to become the next head coach of the Oakland Raiders. The article notes the Raiders to be the Chargers' "most-hated rival", which is odd. I thought their most-hated rival was celebratory dancing.

This pretty nifty article takes a look back at the weaknesses reported on some of the college scouting reports of current Steeler players. Steeler fans, have they improved?
