The final pre-bowl ratings feature LSU at the top, of course, but Oklahoma State and others might have a beef with Alabama's ticket to the BCS title game.

As unpopular as the BCS may be, it does do one thing rather well: award the team that had the best overall season in college football with the national championship trophy.

There's something peculiar about the way we crown a champion in college football, and we're not talking about the BCS. The conference championships have issues too.

Houston has much more in common with the 2007 Hawaii Warriors (a team that flopped badly in a Sugar Bowl matchup with Georgia) than with the non-AQ BCS busters like Utah, Boise State, and TCU that have thrived in recent seasons.
