Austin, Little, And Quinn Officially Done At UNC

The fallout continues at North Carolina in the wake of the player-agent storm cloud hovering over Chapel Hill for the last six weeks. Defensive tackle Marvin Austin has been officially dismissed from the team following a joint investigation by North Carolina and the NCAA. The NCAA has ruled wide receiver Greg Little and defensive end Robert Quinn permanently ineligible. All three will be sought-after prospects in next year's NFL draft.

ESPN: Alabama Opponents Can't Bye A Win

In this week's ESPN Insider feature, Brian Fremeau investigates whether Alabama is at a disadvantage facing a South Carolina team with an extra week to prepare. It turns out there is no measurable advantage or disadvantage for teams following a bye week, either in the win-loss column or in Game Efficiency. If the Gamecocks are going to take down the Crimson Tide this weekend, they'll have to beat them play-by-play and drive-by-drive. The calendar won't have anything to do with the outcome.

Never Punt With Denard Robinson

The "Mathlete" at the popular Michigan Wolverines fan site MGoBlog has crunched the numbers and produced a handy guide for Rich Rodriguez' go-for-it decisions for the rest of the season. As long as Denard Robinson is running the show and Michigan's field goal kicking remains suspect, Rodriguez should consider half the field to be four-down territory.

MSU's Dantonio Recovering From Heart Attack

Early Sunday morning following Michigan State's thrilling overtime victory over Notre Dame, Spartans' head coach Mark Dantonio suffered a heart attack and underwent an emergency cardiac catheterization procedure. He is expected to make a full recovery. Dantonio will remain hospitalized for several days and will be out indefinitely. Offensive coordinator Don Treadwill has assumed the interim head coach responsibilities in his absence.
