A look at the rosters of the Giants and Patriots and how they were assembled. Did you know that the Giants will have just one guy on the field Super Bowl Sunday whom they drafted in the first round? The Patriots will have seven. The bulk of both rosters comes from free agency, but not the kind of high-priced free agents who make headlines.

Was the success of New England's running game this season just a product of their record-setting passing attack? In the AFC Championship, we learned the answer is pretty clearly no.

My column at Fox this week is a look at the four coaches who will man the sidelines this weekend, and how all four of them turned out to be better fits for the job than it might have appeared at the time they were hired.

The Seahawks finished the regular season with the league's fifth best rush defense, according to DVOA, but they were powerless to stop Ryan Grant of the Green Bay Packers last Saturday. How did Grant overcome the invaders from Seattle? With superior manpower and a serving of old-school football.

At Fox this week I write about the Cowboys. The month of December didn't exactly treat the Cowboys kindly, but you've got to think they're still the favorites to come out of the NFC.

Here's the transcript of the chat I did today at Baseball Prospectus. The biggest surprise to me was that I got about four times as many questions about the draft and free agency as I got about this weekend's four games. Bill Barnwell is doing a chat at BP a week from today.

One player stood out above all others in the Chargers' wild card weekend win over the Titans, and it was not the first player you'd expect. Linebacker Shaun Phillips had a big game, a game we examine in this week's Every Play Counts.

My own opinions on each team's situation at quarterback heading into the playoffs, from No. 1 (Patriots) to No. 12 (Titans).

After 17 weeks of watching tape, it is time to name the fourth annual Every Play Counts All-Pro Team. This year's team has a lot of no-brainers, but it also features a new generation of talented young offensive linemen and some unexpected names in the secondary.
