Top receiver corps, to be specific, and I consider tight ends and running backs who can catch as part of the corps.

There's a link in this article to a blog entry about where the Seahawks rank among the best secondaries of history. It's a little like an old school Walkthough "Top Five."

Lots of FO analysis weaved into these ratings. After years working here in various capacities, I still discover new things hidden right under my nose, in plain sight. The defensive DVOA ratings against running backs and tight ends makes a fascinating indicator of the "shape" of a front seven's performance: maybe they are forcing tight ends and backs to block all the time, or covering them well, or abandoning too much in the name of pass rush (the Browns), leaving the screen and hot read game wide open.

It was inevitable that I would give up trying to brainstorm loopy offseason features each week and revert to something more conventional and easier to promote. Going to go unit by unit ranking teams throughout June and into July. In the event that I come up with something loopy, I will just write it midweek.
Also Sports on Earth unveils a 32-team offseason feature this week, starting with the Falcons. My usual co-conspirators, including Rob Weintraub, Russ Lande, Dan Pompeii and Andrew Garda, will be chipping in and breaking down teams throughout the month.
Finally, buy my book.

Something a little frothy for Memorial Day weekend, in part because I am knee deep in FO Almanac chapters! (And also Indy 500 coverage and a video project for Sports on Earth and on and on).

The NFL season hinges on these guys, from Cam Newton and Rob Gronkowski to Ike Taylor and Jay Feely.

My wacky "use real pedagogy" draft grades arrive too late to be part of the FO survey, and they don't fit the format, anyway. But that does not mean you cannot hear my long-winded insights about why I hate the Steelers draft class.
NFC grades arrive tomorrow.

What happens when the Browns ignore an obvious need, Jim Harbaugh forgets Mother's Day, and I try to process the Richard Sherman contract while substitute teaching a religious ed class?

Russ Lande and I (Tanier) have gone into something halfway between Beast Mode and a fugue state in the final days of draft coverage. There are tons of articles littering Sports on Earth by one or both of us, but this condenses 3 months of draft babble into a semi-concise roundup.

Seeing the glass half-full is a great way to understand what teams are truly hoping to accomplish this weekend. This weekend! The draft is just a few days away! Finally!
