Mandatory Monday: Hot Rivals

Camp-style coverage kicks off with this very FOA-style breakdown of the 49ers and Seahawks, acting as if their Week 2 matchup was this Sunday, because we with it was. Over at my Tailgater blog I am putting up all sorts of team-based Heading into Camp articles, with ones about the Ravens and Rams already up!

Mandatory Monday: Numbers Game

I tease FOA 2013 at Sports on Earth a little by using some examples from 2012 to explain how you can do your own do-it-yourself analysis. Much of what I am saying is preaching to the choir here, but it never hurts to break out the greatest hits package.

Mandatory Monday: Let's Get Real

My survey of several of the fantasy football guides currently on shelves, plus a look at why buying a fantasy football guide off a shelf makes almost no sense in 2013.

Mandatory Monday: Fandom in Crisis

This was really hard to write. The Hernandez case has made me feel physically sick a few times: an occupational hazard, no doubt. Here's what I think of the sport we love these days, and also what I think of people who use terrible crimes like this to be as callous or cynical as possible.

Mandatory Monday*: All Third String Team

My all-third string team, because people are talking so much about third stringers these days. I based the list mainly on the name recognition of the guys: I have no doubt that there are 30 late-round rookies and undrafted free agents who are better than Chilo Rachal right now, but I went with people who have some kind of track record. Fun, a little informative, and about 2,500 words of non-stop passive aggression.

Mandatory Monday: Running for their Lives

The Steelers running game: awful in 2012, sorta new in 2013. I will be writing the Steelers chapter for FOA 2013. That chapter takes more of a big picture view of the Steelers organization, but this article provides some sneak previews into the player, unit, and coaching comments.

Mandatory Monday*: Mountains out ot Molehills

This Tuesday edition of Mandatory Monday finds me building Mount Rushmores out of mashed potatoes. An all 3rd string QB Mount Rushmore, a USFL Mount Rushmore, a glasses Mount Rushmore, and much more.

Mandatory Monday: The Average Quarterback

Oops! Forgot to link up Mandatory Monday! I am writing the Bengals chapter of Football Outsiders Almanac this year, and after putting the rough draft together, I assembled this piece on Andy Dalton from the research. So, halfway between "sneak preview" and "time saver," but you get your Bengals on. Also, stop by the Tailgater blog for Bengals wide receiver Top Fives (lots of Isaac Curtis), and specials on RG3's wedding registry, Rob Gronkowski, and that fugitive from the Seven Soldiers of Victory, DR. JESSE JUPITER.
