Mandatory Monday: Unsung Star

Everything you wanted to know about Alterraun Verner but were afraid to ask. Don't forget that me, Rob Weintraub, Russ Lande and Dan Pompeii are playing GM for a Day for all 32 teams, right though the start of free agency. Rob's Bengals essay should be on Sports on Earth now. I will be doing Chiefs (draft order was screwed up by individual schedules) tomorrow!

Mandatory Monday: Ups and Downs

An offseason "risers and fallers" piece, in which teams with young cores and cash to spend (Eagles, Colts) get better and old teams in cap trouble fall (Saints, Steelers). Click around Sports on Earth for our GM for a Day series: Rob Weintraub has the latest installment, about the Buccaneers, but we are updating daily. Also: lots of Michael Sam coverage.

Better Days Ahead

The NFL is certainly not perfect, and there are issues to address, but the current hyperbolic wave of criticism of the NFL is getting a bit ridiculous. The NFL can't solve social problems that no other institution has fully solved, and the NFL can't make football 100 percent safe any more than it could make skateboarding or baseball 100 percent safe. Roger Goodell can't go back in time and teach players of the 1970's about concussions any more than Bud Selig can go back to make sure Ryan Freel never gets a concussion.

Mandatory Monday: Super Spectacle

How to turn the Super Bowl into the holiday it truly is. As usual, I am doing gags heading into the week so I don't burn out on other things, but stick around to the end for a piece what makes Russell Wilson unique enough to lead the Seahawks to the Super Bowl.

Mandatory Monday: The Will to Win

Before I watched the championship games, I watched scouts and general managers grab Senior Bowl prospects who were barely off the plane and sit them down for interviews. It's a reminder that everything we see in the playoffs is just a tip of the iceberg.
