How soon will the Houston Texans be competitive? Will the Colts survive life without Edge? Will Edge be playing somewhere else in the AFC? What should Jacksonville and Tennessee do about David Garrard and Steve McNair? Ned Macey answers these and other questions facing AFC South teams in the free agent period.

Ben Roethlisberger and Shaun Alexander? No, try these names for players who will play important roles in determining which team wins Super Bowl XL: Mack Strong, Kimo von Oelhoffen, Heath Miller, and LeRoy Hill.

Another impressive win for the Steelers has them heading to Detroit as favorites. Ben Roethlisberger has been great, but it is the pass rush that is leading this team. Denver suffers another difficult playoff loss, but maybe the biggest problem could be the defensive coaching, not the quarterback.

The media had been informed, including Football Outsiders. The referees had certainly been informed. Somebody forgot to tell the Steelers that the Colts were this year's Super Bowl winners. And, unfortunately for the Colts, someone also forgot to tell their offensive line.

The up-and-down Panthers are featured in Any Given Sunday yet again. This time, they rode a strong -- and surprising -- performance by DeShaun Foster and controlled the clock against the struggling Giants. In case you were worried that the all was not right with the world, Eli Manning made several ill-advised passes to sink any chance of a Giants' comeback.

Overall, this is a harmless article discussing the Jaguars with some insight. However, it raises a pet peeve of mine. In Pro Football Prospectus we wrote in the Byron Leftwich comment, "There is an unwritten rule prevalent in sports journalism, one that prescribes that African American players can be compared only to other African Americans and whites only to other whites." Here, Don Banks says David Garrard is Leftwich's "near clone." Other then the fact that they are African American and strong, they have nothing in common. They do not look alike.

The last shall be first and the first shall be last. So goes the theory of Loser League, where fans of Kyle Orton and Antowain Smith can see their favorite players truly excel. Ned Macey takes a look back at the second half of the league to see which players shine when mediocrity is the goal.

Playing to stay in the hunt for a first-round bye, the Bengals fell at home to the lowly Bills. Ned Macey investigates the long-term future of the Bills quarterback situation and the short-term future for the Bengals in the playoffs. Neither looks too bright.

They finally got to pop the champagne in Miami. Unlike in previous seasons, the Colts did not lose because of a leaky defense, they lost because of an offensive line that could not stop what has become a dominant San Diego pass rush. Meanwhile, both teams feature stud running backs that are banged up. One of them should now get some much-needed rest, while the other is likely to get more rest than he wants starting January 1.

With the Chargers finishing the year against Miami, Indianapolis, Kansas City, and Denver, everybody knew they would lose again. Just nobody thought it would be to the Dolphins. Ned Macey looks at how it happened and finds a banged up LT, a strengthened Miami defense, and the Chargers in need of help from a member of the Rat Pack to save their fading playoff hopes.
