Coming off a weekend road trip to Las Vegas, Russell ponders the role of legalized gambling in this week's Confessions of a Football Junkie. Is the NCAA really lobbying for a college sports betting ban or just paying the idea lip service? What about the NFL? Plus, this week's BlogPoll ballot and the John L. Smith Trophy.

Who needs the NFL in a city replete with undefeated college teams? Clearly not Snoop Dogg. Russell breaks down the similarities between these two offensive powerhouses. Plus he looks at college uniforms harder and ranks Notre Dame higher than anybody else does.

Could Texas's Mack Brown actually be turning into a big-game head coach? Russell explores that question in the latest edition of Confessions of a Football Junkie, plus the John L. Smith Trophy and the latest BlogPoll ballot.

The theme of the weekend was questionable officiating -- the end of the USC game, the end of the Saints game, playoff baseball had it in spades. Russell looks at the way coaches deal with it. He can't help but give proper respect to Charlie Weis for the work he's doing in South Bend. Get in line, Russ, Weis is the king of Irish town.

The football viewing was a little different for Russell this weekend, as he took the opportunity to see his favorite NFL team, the Buccaneers, play in person. Along the way, he spent some quality pregame time with the Wayne Chrebet fan club, learned of the recuperative properties of Jets Juice, and ate from Big Sal's grill at a rolling Jets tailgate party. Take a trip to Gang Green country along with Confessions of a Football Junkie.

FOXSports.com's Jay Glazer reports that New Orleans' running back Deuce McAllister has a torn ACL and will miss the rest of this season.
Is it just me, or does that feel-good win over Carolina seem like it took place about three years ago?

If you watched as much football as Russell Levine, you'd get annoyed at instant replay too. In this edition of Confessions, he takes the college game to task for their games which take too long, and he gives everybody the business for a weekend of replay challenges with a lower success rate than DeShaun Foster's. (Ok, that was a cheap shot -- but at whom?) Plus the usual Russell features, like the Mike Martz award and his latest BlogPoll.

A couple of unrelated items from Russell's in-box make it into this week's edition of Confessions of a Football Junkie. Also, is USC better off for having sleepwalked through the first half against Oregon? And did you notice the new little wrinkle Bill Belichick came up with in the final seconds against Pittsburgh? Plus, the latest BlogPoll ballot.

Wasn't it just a week ago that Russell was promising not to get too wrapped up in the season of his favorite NFL team, the Buccaneers? Well that's all out the window after a second straight impressive win. Plus, some griping about NFL announcers, an important development in the Levine household, and the updated BlogPoll ballot.

Russell checks in with a road-trip wrapup from his Michigan trip for the Notre Dame game. In what is surely a sign of aging, he's not all that upset. Really. Maybe the Buccaneers' Sunday effort has something to do with that.
