In this week's Sunday Night Football column, I look at the Eagles going from throwing less to throwing more and Nick Foles' deep ball struggles. Plenty of overthrows included.

The Bengals and Patriots rank fourth- and sixth-worst in the league in third down conversion percentage, so this week's NBC Sports column covers that and how third down conversion percentage varies by yards to go.

Per Jay Glazer, so I'm trusting this report after Sunday night's AP report that was quickly retracted. As Mike Sando's survey revealed, nobody actually has any idea how good a coach Allen has been given the situation in Oakland. Offensive line coach Tony Sparano will likely be the interim head coach, allowing both coordinators to keep their jobs. The question now becomes, will GM Reggie McKenzie be next on the chopping block?

For this week's Sunday Night Football column, I break down a couple screens by the Panthers, one of the best RB screen teams in the league, and the Steelers, who ran more WR screens than anybody else in the league in 2013.

My latest column for NBC Sports, taking a look at the Bears and 49ers run defenses and how you can run up the middle on both of them. Stat from this piece I wouldn't have guessed: the 49ers were 31st in Stuff Rate on runs marked Mid/Guard last year, ahead of only the Jaguars.

I'll be writing a weekly column for NBC Sports this year taking a statistical look at the Sunday Night Football matchup. After the Colts got to him four times in last year's game, the first one is on Peyton Manning's ability to avoid sacks.

As first reported by John McClain, the Houston Texans and J.J. Watt have agreed to a long-term contract extension. Chris Mortensen indicates it's it's a six-year deal worth $100 million, with $51.8 million in guaranteed money.

Part I of II today at ESPN Insider. Based on FO simulations, which team is most likely to go from fourth place to first place this season? The surprising answer is Buffalo, followed by Houston and Tampa Bay. In last place among the last place teams: Oakland.

As broken on Twitter by Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson, the Arizona Cardinals and cornerback Patrick Peterson have agreed to terms on a contract extension. Peterson indicates the deal is for $70 million over 5 years with $48 million guaranteed, meaning one of the NFL's best cornerbacks will be plying his trade in Arizona for years to come.

Per Jay Glazer. Reported terms are for five years, $36.5 million. Rudolph, a second-round pick from Notre Dame, was heading into the final year of his rookie deal. Good chunk of change for a player who has never posted a positive DVOA and ranked 44th with -13.9% DVOA last year in the eight games he played last year. Of course, the Vikings QB situation had a lot to do with those numbers. That should be better this year, and we saw last year with Jordan Cameron what Norv Turner can do with tight ends.
