The Pro Football Hall of Fame has announced the modern-era semifinalists for the 2013 class. This list of 27 will be reduced to the 15 finalists whose candidacy will be discussed Super Bowl weekend in early January alongside with senior candidate Curley Culp and Dave Robinson. First-year eligibles who made the first cut include Larry Allen, Morten Andersen, John Lynch, Jonathan Ogden, Warren Sapp, and Michael Strahan. No Ray Guy this time around, sorry (but not sorry) punters.

Adam Schefter reports Buccaneers cornerback Aqib Talib has been suspended four games, beginning tomorrow, for use of Adderall. Talib does not plan to appeal the suspension. Thankfully for the Bucs, they're facing Kansas City this week so it shouldn't matter that much until they play, um, the Saints next week.

Sad news out of Indianapolis this morning, as Colts head coach Chuck Pagano has been diagnosed with leukemia. He's fortunate enough to have what is reportedly a treatable form of the disease and will be out for some number of weeks getting treatment. Offensive coordinator Bruce Arians will be the interim head coach while Pagano is being treated. Best wishes to Coach Pagano for a quick return to full health.

Mike Shanahan announced at his press conference today that Redskins outside linebacker Brian Orakpo had torn his pectoral muscle and would be out for the year. Defensive end Adam Carriker, re-signed this offseason, tore his quadriceps tendon and is also out for the year. Good luck, Jim Haslett, you're going to need it.

Big news from today's Falcons press conference, as Mike Smith announces Brent Grimes is out for the year with an Achilles injury. Grimes ranked third in the league last year in Success Rate and second in Adjusted Pass Yards, so this is obviously a big loss. Asante Samuel and Dunta Robinson are now your starters at cornerback.

In this week's edition of Monday Morning Quarterback, Peter King writes about his stops with the Chiefs, Rams, Colts, and Packers. He says nice things about Andrew Luck and Blaine Gabbert, and some less nice things about the referee lockout and the work the replacement referees have done.
