The NFL has suspended San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith for nine games for violating the league's personal-conduct policy.
Smith was sentenced in July to 11 days of work release in a Santa Clara County (Calif.) court after his September 2013 arrest for drunken driving. It was his second such arrest since entering the NFL in 2011. Also, Smith had three felony gun charges knocked down to misdemeanors.

This week, Peter King says the Seahawks are the most talented team he's seen all summer, but he doesn't like their odds of repeating. Plus, thoughts on Sam Bradford's fate, a peek inside Arizona's war room on draft day, Joe Haden on new pass coverage rules, and more.

Going too low in your fantasy draft: veteran quarterbacks, running backs who do more with their hands than their feet, and Houston's (only) two good receivers.

Robert Mays at Grantland searches for an NFL equivalent to the NBA's corner three-pointer, a low-risk, high-reward play that works for most teams in most situations. After you've read his research and his conclusion, you might be interested in this and this.

Today, looking at teams we think have a good chance to get better or worse in the NFC. On the rise: Atlanta, Tampa Bay, and Washington. Possibly declining: Arizona, Carolina, and the surprisingly old San Francisco 49ers.

Seattle and Arizona need to complete their offensive lines, San Francisco needs cornerbacks to step up, and the Rams need Sam Bradford to play like a No. 1 pick.

Hey, does your favorite team need better line play on either side of the ball? They probably play in the NFC South.

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman doesn't need a spokesman or PR firm to announce his new contract. He turned to a Stanford graduate with a degree in communications who is working on his Master's: himself.
"I am blessed to announce that the Seattle Seahawks and I have reached an agreement on a contract extension," Sherman wrote on his blog today.
