I feel so much better about this team than I did a week ago.

Briggs Reportedly Cuts Hand With Straight Razor

While attempting to shave with a straight razor, Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs apparently cut his hand open. If true, and he failed to notify the team of his injury, it could violate terms of his contract. Still, it could have been worse, as seen at 7:30 of this clip.

Jaguars Unveil THEIR New Uniforms

Not to be outdone by the Lions (because really, who wants to be outdone by the Lions? at anything?), Jacksonville has also come up with new uniforms for 2009. The color scheme is basically the same, though they've added some goofy contrast stripes (that actually make the black pants a lot more palatable), and the black helmets now have "a teal-like glitter." Photos available here.

Lions Unveil New Uniforms, Logo, Font

You've got to start somewhere. The Detroit Lions have unveiled a new helmet logo, wordmark, and uniforms. The new logo is more detailed and, when viewed next to the old one, looks more like, well, a lion. The uniform changes are subtle; they're still wearing silver helmets and pants with Honolulu blue jerseys and black trim. (On that note, why does a team in Detroit wear a color called "Honolulu blue?") Pictures of the uniforms available here.

Bears Add Orlando Pace

"On the same day the Chicago Bears added a new quarterback, they got someone to protect him." That's the lead on the ESPN story, and I can't top it. Before everyone in Chicago gets too excited, remember that Pace has not played a full season since 2005. He did play in 14 games last year, though, and 33 is not terribly old for an offensive tackle.

Our story begins with a very wealthy cornerback, stops in Denver and Kansas City where defensive help is still needed, and winds up in San Diego for some peace and quiet. Vince Verhei looks at the AFC West.

DeMaurice Smith Named Head Of NFLPA

DeMaurice Smith, a 45-year-old D.C.-based attorney, has been voted new executive director of the NFL Players' Association. Smith beat out three other candidates, including former players Troy Vincent and Trace Armstrong. The two most pressing issues facing Smith: Taking better care of retired players, and getting a new deal done with the league to prevent a work stoppage in 2011.

Seahawks Trade Peterson For Lions' Redding

After refusing to take a pay cut, linebacker Julian Peterson was traded by the Seattle Seahawks to the Detroit Lions for defensive end/tackle Cory Redding. The Seahawks will also get the Lions' fifth-round draft pick in the deal.

Peterson was arguably Seattle's best defender last year, finishing second on the team in tackles and third in sacks. The linked story describes Redding as "a talented young player who is still in his prime," but he's 28 years old -- at this point, what you see is what you get, and he's not likely to get any better. He is 2 1/2 years younger than Peterson, though.

McFadden Leaves One Super Bowl Team For The Other

Former Pittsburgh cornerback Bryant McFadden has signed with Arizona. Two years, $10 million. $5 million in the first year, so I assume that's guaranteed. This could be a big deal for the Cardinals -- if McFadden can beat out Rod Hood for a starting job and bump Hood down to nickel back, they will be stronger at both positions.
