Yes, after months of waiting, the four schools that everyone already knew were going to the Big East -- Boise State, Houston, SMU, and UCF -- will officially announce that they are joining the conference. They will be joined by the Big East-est recruit yet, San Diego State. No, really.
According to Brett McMurphy of CBSSports.com, the Big East will pursue Navy and Air Force as well in an attempt to reach 12 football members again.

According to The Columbus Dispatch's sources, Ohio State will name Urban Meyer as their head coach next week. Meyer has repeatedly issued statements that there is no deal in place.
This would also be a good thread to talk about Rich Rodriguez taking over in Arizona, if you're in to that sort of thing.

It's official: the SEC will hit 14 teams in 2012 after stealing Missouri from the Big 12. With this domino out of the way, the SEC should be done making moves for the time being. The Big 12 will probably look to move on by admitting West Virginia and/or Louisville.

In this week's As the Conference Turns...
The Big East has reportedly finalized its invitations to the best of the rest, meeting yesterday to vote on sending them out to Houston, Boise State, SMU, Navy, Air Force, and Central Florida.
With how little of the actual Big East is still intact at this point, it is still unknown if this will be enough to keep their oft-criticized automatic BCS bid. On the bright side, the Big East now almost stretches to the Far East.

The excellent Kevin Pelton of Basketball Prospectus fame has a great new post on his own "After the Buzzer" blog about the Washington Huskies' football defense. Using FEI and S&P, Kevin makes a compelling argument that defensive coordinator Nick Holt is as much the root cause of a defense that's falling apart as the defensive talent that's too young by necessity.

Per Pete Thamel of The New York Times, Missouri leaving the Big 12 for the SEC is now "inevitable and imminent," but there is no timeline for it to do so. Should that go down, the Big 12 will likely look to replenish via the Big East (or rumored soon-to-be Big East members), which could hurt their chances of retaining an automatic BCS bowl bid.

Aaron Rodgers is the best quarterback in the NFL, and should be the highest-paid. We can all agree on that. But this guest column by Kevin Kolbe explains why salaries for other quarterbacks are all out of whack.
