Rumors had been curculating all morning, but FOX Sports' Jay Glazer was the first to confirm that the Redskins have traded a conditional pick to the Saints for tackle Jammal Brown. The trade should allow the Redskins to develop first-round pick Trent Williams, who played just one season at left tackle at Oklahoma, on the right side in the short term. Brown missed the entire 2009 season with a hip injury, but the trade will obviously depend on a physical. Brown will also have to sign the first- and third-round tender the Saints placed on him, which will ostensibly be the first step to a long-term extension in D.C.

It's ... still 2007 all over again. But were the Patriots really that good this season?

Only a conditional pick? How bad was his injury?
Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
Beep Beep Beep Beep.
Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
Brown going backwards on a pass block?
Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
I figured it was the "Redskins trading a draft pick away" alarm.
Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
More like the low battery indicator for the same.
Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
.. backing up the truck.
Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
The pick is a 3rd or 4th rounder. The Redskins owe the Eagles either their 3rd or 4th rounder for the McNabb trade (conditional on McNabb's performance), and they'll send the other one to the Saints. But they'll also get a later pick back from the Saints - a 5th rounder if they give up their 3rd, or a 6th or 7th rounder if they give up their 4th.
Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
The last ten years of being a Redskins fan have taught me to panic every time the front office does ANYTHING, but now that I've gotten past the initial freakout, I'm feeling tentatively OK about this decision. Depth on the o-line is never a bad thing, and the fact that Bruce Allen is even thinking about such things gives me hope. That said, I don't have a particularly positive impression of Brown. Am I wrong there? Anyone want to tell me something to make me feel better about him? (Tell me things that will make me feel worse about it, too, if you want. I can handle it.)
Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
Also have read that initial plan is for Trent Williams to play LT and Brown to play on the right side.
Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
2 thoughts:
1--After reading the terms of the trade, I thought that the Saints didn't get too much for a 2x PB LT. But they didn't have much leverage. Have two other decent LT's and drafted another in the 2nd round
2--JB's injury must be pretty bad to only net a 4th rounder. Have to believe the Saints know more about it than anyone else.
Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
I'm on board with this. Brown will have to pass a physical for the deal to go through, and trading down from the 4th to the 6th round (or from the 3rd to the 5th) is a pretty cheap price to pay to take a flier on someone who, at the least, might be able to provide some desperately-needed depth at tackle.
Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
With Trent being completely unproven, even injured, JB is without question the most talented member of the Redskins' OL. That, for a III or IV with a late round give back, seems well worth the cost.

Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
It also, come to think, raises the question of what SD's McNeill, also off injury, would be worth. Buffalo?

Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
I realize that Buffalo may not be the greatest town in the world, but surely it's worth more than a left tackle.
Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
Oh, I just thought he was asking for McNeill's market value, expressed in terms of head of bison.
Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
In Raiders of the Lost Ark, Sallah accepts 5 camels in exchange for his brother's car blowing up. I'd say a buffalo is worth at 2 camels, so how many cars is McNeill worth?

Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
Tuluse, no no no. In Raiders, Indy replaced the golden idol with a bag of sand. And Temple of Doom where he replaced Nazis with a bogus heart-grabbing witch doctor and Karen Allen with... oh God, the pain, don't force me to recall that woman.....
It's in The Last Crusade where Sallah mutters about replacing the value of his brother in law's car. (And it's in the first LOTR movie where he first says "Nobody throws a dwarf!" and then later says "Throw me across." Great actor, great voice, but clearly the man cannot make up his mind.)
Now back to the initial issue, I am pretty sure Indiana Jones would trade Coronado's Cross and a used Prius for a solid LT.
Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
D'oh. You're right.
I do remember Indy wanted "no camels" whole time though. So if he is negotiating for San Diego, I suspect he may not accept any number of buffalo.
If a team really wants him, they should hire Belloc. He'll show up with a tribe of indigenous San Deigoans wielding blow darts. I hear Shawne Merriman is skilled at injections.
Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
I do, indeed, love this site.
Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
It was also in 'Last Crusade' that the Nazis were given an armed escort in exchange for a Rolls-Royce Phantom II (which, in turn, led to the destruction of Sallah's brother-in-law's car, which led to the procurement of the camels). So, in effect, the price of the Rolls-Royce should probably be factored into any calculation on the exchange-rate for the camel.

Football Outsiders. Great site or greatest site?
Hail Hydra!
Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
I'm still waiting for raiderjoe to chime in on the greatness of Raiders of the Lost Ark. That would complete the thread.
Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
Raiders of Lost Ark best movir alll time. Action advrnture fun. Good acting. Excitement. Music goid. When furst heard of movie made think was about a great Raiders team. Then saw comercial week later and saw it not a football movie but axtually advebture movie
Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
As a Saints fan, I believe the Redskins got a great deal for Brown. Obviously, with the injury, there's risk involved. But before he was hurt he was, by far, our best lineman (although, he does rack up a lot of holds & false starts).
I know Brown was expendable, but I figured he could garner a larger return than that.
By the way, this wasn't mentioned earlier but there's also a conditional 2012 6th round pick if Brown starts 90% of the games or makes the ProBowl.
Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
Brown was (and may still be) a good player, but in no way was he ever as good as Jahri Evans is, much less far better.
Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
I always felt like Brown was a really good Right Tackle, but didn't make the transition to Left Tackle very well. He seemed to coast on his reputation after the switch. He seemed turn in to a holding and false start machine on the left side.
Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
Well, Brown passed his physical and proclaimns himself 100% healthy. In fact he says he could of played last year, so the injury is not a concern.decodedit
Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
He got the injury in preseason; I think he was supposed to be healthy around game 11 or 12 last year. The team decided they couldn't keep him on the active roster that long, so he was placed on injured reserve.
Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
Oh well, if he proclaims himself 100% healthy, I'm on board.
Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
Yrade might work out for sainys . Dont teally need brown anymore and if do anythimg good for Shanarat then Saints hoing to get good draft pick
Re: Redskins Trade for Jammal Brown
What does this mean for the fantasy value of Charles Brown?
