A news conference has been scheduled for later today at which Urban Meyer will step down from his position as head coach of the Florida Gators. "I fully grasp the sacrifices my 24/7 profession has demanded of me, and I know it is time to put my focus on my family and life away from the field," Meyer said. About 350 days ago, Urban Meyer announced his retirement due to health concerns, but swiftly reversed that decision and coached the Florida Gators to an underwhelming 7-5 record in 2010.

Offensive line problems highlight the needs in the NFC North ... except in Chicago, which is kind of unsettling to think about.

Re: Urban Meyer Stepping Down
"I have given my heart and soul to coaching college football and mentoring young men for the last 24-plus years and I have dedicated most of my waking moments the last five years to the Gator football program," Meyer said in a statement. "I have ignored my health for years, but recent developments have forced me to reevaluate my priorities of faith and family."

Re: Urban Meyer Stepping Down
I thought the exact same thing, but with him using the 'family time' rationale, I can't fathom how he'd spin his way out of that to then take a job in Denver. I know he changed his mind last year, but to do it again this year, he'd be on the Bobby Petrino/Nick Saban path as far as public/player perception.
Re: Urban Meyer Stepping Down
He's got to be exhausted, needs to recharge his batteries. In other words, time for a little Urban renewal!
*tap* *tap* *tap* uh . . . is this thing on?

Re: Urban Meyer Stepping Down
Well, Bobby Bowden he ain't.
When we are all dead and buried, a bionic JoePa would still be walking the Penn State sidelines in his 120th season.
