The Boiler Room Series: Syracuse QB Ryan Nassib

It’s incredibly difficult to boil down any player with just one play, much less a quarterback. Yet, if I were Russ Lande pounding the table for Syracuse quarterback Ryan Nassib as my top player – yes, player – in this draft, and I need a play to emphasize in that highlight reel, this is my nomination. As strange as it sounds, it’s an incomplete pass and it’s still one of the best quarterback plays I have seen from a prospect this year.

i'm confused. you write that he has the upside to be special if he had a better deep ball. yet the guys you mention are peyton manning, tom brady, and matt ryan. of those 3, the only one who I have ever even remotely heard complimented on his deep touch is manning. have I been lied to all this time about brady and ryan? I don't live in either of their markets, so i rarely watch them, but every impression I've gotten is that both are totally ordinary on deep passes.

Stylistically speaking, he’s a weaker-armed quarterback in the mold of Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, and Matt Ryan.

I think you mis-read, although I've never heard of Manning possessing a weak arm. Maybe his nerve issues have taken away some laser-rocketness.

ah, perhaps I did misread. in which case I'm even more confused. I read that as him being a weaker armed version of those guys.

Nice enough play. No question. But I've got to question if he's really as accurate as this play would have you believe. He was 62% completions the last two seasons. Not bad, but not amazing for college. Were lots of passes dropped like this example?

Yes, Markus. He has his share of drops where he sticks passes into good spots and they are dropped. His receivers on the whole are not very polished.
