The BCS is a case of "if you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with." Face it, college football fans, we're not getting a playoff anytime soon. In the meantime, the BCS isn't the miserable failure that it's portrayed to be. So says Russell Levine in this week's edition of Confessions of a Football Junkie.

Colorado fired head coach Gary Barnett last week, paying the embattled coach $3 million to leave. The school's decision to fire Barnett now, after several embarassing losses, and not two years ago, after an embarrasssing recruiting scandal, says a lot about where priorities lie in big-time college football.

The creation of the 12-team superconferences, with their divisional formats and conference championship games, was supposed to transform college football. But one look at this Saturday's schedule, with ho-hum title games in the ACC and Big 12, makes one wonder whether the desired effect is being achieved. Plus, the weekly John L.
