An appreciation thread

Mindblown at the sheer volume of stats in the book? Find yourself chortling uncontrollably at the DeShaun Foster hymn or some other witticism? Using the projections to win your fantasy league? Bowled over by the quality of the analysis? By the depth of the research? Or simply amazed that you got all this at such a reasonable price?

Let this be a space for thanks and compliments — like one of those Facebook threads that starts with "You're beautiful" and ends with infinite lols.

(Feels a little sucky to be starting this thread, but someone ought to.)

Haven't even read the book (waiting for a hard copy, but will probably buy both, because I really want to know what is up with the Foster comment), but I would like to say I find this site and all the hard work put into it just flat out amazing. When I first heard that the book wouldn't be coming out this year, I was close to jumping off a bridge, and then to find out they were still doing it, just under a new name, I safely came off the ledge.

I think Facebook needs a 'Fan of Football Outsiders' page, and I'd start it, but I am pretty much Facebook illiterate, so I don't think I'd know how.

I am pretty sure that there is a Facebook page, and that I joined it.

There is a walkthrough group, I don't know if there is a FO general group

Wow, I am totally blown away by the almanac. I can't even imagine the number of hours that went into this. For a compilation of stats, it's incredibly well-written and humorous--I loved the Norv Turner jokes.

One thing I would like to know is how reliable are your predictions? How accurate have you guys been in the past and what is the margin of error so to speak? I know FO has made some bold and correct predictions but what about overall? I can't seem to find information on that. Thanks.

agreed. There should be a 2008 retrospective such that a number of writer's or publications predictions are stacked up next to reality, and then evaluated. This way we can see if the outsiders' hubris is justified.

I too am amazed every year at what the FO guys are able to accomplish with a fairly small number of people involved.

Thanks for all your hard work, guys.

I love the book for so many reasons, but one I want to express special thanks for is the obvious hard work and attention to detail FO puts into it. There really are no shortcuts taken. For example, the "Going Deep" section on RBs and WRs could be short one-liners reacpping each player's lousy stats and other shortcomings, which would get boring pretty fast. Many other writers might handle it that way. But in FOA it's one of the funniest sections in the book and for me a must-read, even though I will never draft a single player on these lists. So thanks FO for the stats, research, good writing, humor and just overall for the great product.

Another satisfied customer here! Thanks for the silliness (yes, I read all the way to the last two paragraphs).

Next year I'd like to see a statistical analysis of fantasy football's impact on marriages. My wife uses much stronger language than "silly" to describe my passion.

During my last trip to Borders I saw just one book written on fantasy football: 2007's Fantasy Football for Dummies. My gut feeling is that the publisher saw FO's 558 page book with a $20 price tag and preferred to substitute it with two dumbed-down 275 page books that both sell for $20. I truly hope that this year's publishing change has brought you and all your authors financial rewards beyond what you might have made sitting next to the dummies.

Thanks again.
