Draft Advice/Critique ?

10 team non-PPR, 6 pts for passing TD otherwise pretty standard scoring system. No trades, WW only. Start 1 QB (draft 2), 2 RB (draft 4), 3 WR (draft 5), 1 RB/WR/TE Flex, 1 TE (draft 2), 1 PK (draft 2), 1 Def (draft 2)

Drafting from #4 spot:

1. R Rice
2. R White
3. V Jackson
4. P Hillis
5. B Roethlisberger ( 9 QB's were taken)
6. M Ingram
7. M Manningham
8. J Maclin
9. O Daniels
10. M Tolbert
11. K Kolb
12. N Burleson
13. D Keller
14. Lions D
15. 49er's D
16. A Henery
17. S Suisham

I think WR is my strongest position. I'm OK with big Ben as my QB1. Have some RB concerns over the long haul. Recommendations?

Great Draft!!!

Ben is solid. He rarely misses games and the offense is airing it out more and more.

Only suggestion is to get cut the 2nd Def, TE or K and take a flier on a RB that may assume the job later in the year, like Kendall Hunter, Delonte Carter or Ben Tate.

Thanks and good advice. Unfortunately, in this league, we are required to carry backups (TE, PK, DEF) at all positions.

The Steelers actually have a much more pass oriented offense than people give them credit for. The problem with ben is he gets as many yards as a mid range top ten qb, but the steelers LOVE running inside the ten! It's incredibly frustrating. Big pass to mike wallace at the five, run, run, run touchdown. Might be different this year though with mendenhall out.

Can you trade White or Jackson to get an equivalent quality RB? Given your league structure, you may have to package White/Jackson with Hillis/Ingram. I'd rather see a 2nd round RB and 4th round WR than the other way around - in particular in a non-ppr format. Using #2 and #3 for WRs is OK - just not my style. I'm assuming that by the time it got back to you in round two, you just didn't like the guys left....

Not a bad draft...given that format.

Odd format. I can understand why you'd take Roddy at the end of the second if you thought he was the best player left. But Vincent Jackson in the third is way too early. There had to have been a better choice of RB or QB available at that spot. Whenever I drop a RB in the first, I almost always draft another in one of the next two rounds. If you're going to invest your first pick on a position you need to make it a position where you have depth.

Can you explain this last comment? Why is it more important to have depth at the position of your first pick as opposed to others?

It's just a strategy I personally follow. FF is about getting a points advantage against your opponents by position. If you draft Arian Foster or Ray Rice but don't back them up with strong RBs, you may be below average at the position. On the other hand, if make RB a point of strength, you'll have a huge advantage over your opponent every week.

Ha, I was about to post how much I hated the draft - Jackson, Hillis, Ingram, Manningham, Kolb and Keller at least are massive overdrafts - when I noticed it was posted last year. It looks much more justifiable as a 2011 draft!

I would have hated that draft this year as well! Lol I'll post the one I just did last night under a new thread.

Aah, I didn't realize this was from last year. Makes far more sense then.
