Writers of Pro Football Prospectus 2008

10 Oct 2009

10 Team Non-PPR League.
Standard Scoring (1 pt per 10 yards. 6 pts per Rush/Rec TDs)

Start 2 RBs, 3 WRs, and 1FLEX (RB or WR):

R Rice
B Jacobs
C Benson
Ricky Williams
LS McCoy

L Fitzgerald
R White
D Mason
S Smith (NYG)

I'm leaning towards the following.

RB Rice
RB Jacobs

WR Fitz
WR Mason
WR Smith

FLEX Benson

Benson seems to have a tough match up and I have a hard time sitting Roddy White. McCoy could get solid touches and Ricky Williams has also posted double digits points every week. A Rodgers is on a bye; so Garrard is my QB. I need solid production out of my other positions.

I concur. R. White is supposed to draw Nate Clements. (Of course S. Smith might draw Nnamdi, but probably not all day.) Of the three remaining RBs, you pretty much have to go Benson as the one feature back, but you're looking at 50-60 yards and _maybe_ a TD. If you want to swing for the fences, though, McCoy has the better chance to break off a big play, even though he's playing behind Westbrook. I do expect the Eagles to pull away early and run a lot in the second half.

I'm waiting for White's breakout game...I don't see it this week. I like McCoy's upside this game (and for the year).

Stick with White

I'd bench Mason and Benson for White and McCoy. Mason's safer than White, but he typically doesn't score high without PPR, and White should wake up soon.

McCoy's a gamble, too, but he has a sweet matchup. He could see extra work in a likely blowout. I don't like Miami's chances against the Jets' defense or offense, and a big deficit would limit Williams' involvement. Benson figures to get the most carries, and he inexplicably ran better against Pittsburgh than Cleveland or Denver, but I don't think he'll find any room in Baltimore.

Snowglare, I definitely am looking closely at the combination of White, Mason, McCoy, and Benson to fill two spots. Maybe I'm being too conservative, but I basically need a total of 20 pts at these two spots. White should breakout at some point, but I haven't seen any indicators to change my mind against a tough matchup this week. McCoy definitely could see up to 15 touches this game. Benson draws a tough matchup but will get 20 carries. Mason will get the looks, but has a low ceiling. Just looking to avoid boom or bust.
thanks for your comments

I'm concerned about Mason this week. DVOA breakdowns have CIN #1 against WR1, #30 against WR2. They held Braylon Edwards and Greg Jennings catchless, and severely limited Brandon Marshall (4/27/0) and Santonio Holmes (1/18/0). Mason could be in for a rough week if they play him like a #1 WR.

Things could also get ugly in the Ravens' passing game if Michael Oher isn't ready for Antwan Odom.

(I also like the Eagles)

You saying both White and McCoy instead of Benson and Mason?

Thanks everyone for your input.

I went with the following:

R Rice
B Jacobs
C Benson
L Fitz
R White
S Smith

I sat D Mason and LS McCoy. Glad I got White into the line-up, coming out party indeed!!!

Good to hear

Glad you didn't bench Benson after all. Apparently, he's pretty much unstoppable.

Me too! He's making up for his first couple of years in the league when I drafted him in this keeper league.

Looks like I'll have high score for the week and get absolutely nothing out of my QB.

It will be nice to get A Rodgers and M Colston back next week.
