The FOA2010 Typos And Corrections Thread

Our favorite thread of the year! Here's where you should put in any typos and corrections required for the second (PDF) version of FOA2010 once the first version comes out.

We're looking for minor corrections here (e.g. "Second-round pick" should be "Fourth-round pick"), not issues that have been created by injuries or changes in situation since the book was written.

How long does it take to upload a PDF?? What time do these guys get up in the morning? You would think that this would be an exciting day for them to upload what I would think was finished a couple of days ago. This is irritating.

Bears secondary (p. 52): The Tillman/Vasher duo was already broken up. Zack Bowman was the team's starter last year opposite Tillman and he's slated to start again this year. Tim Jennings is fighting for a roster spot as a backup.

damn you beat me to it. also tom brady in the skill players section p.288 table 1 has yar listed twice when one of the lists should read dyar.

19
Re: The FOA2010 Typos And Corrections Thread
by anotherpatsfan :: Fri, 07/09/2010 - 12:00am

First YAR should be DYAR I believe. Also, the stats for Brady in table 1 don't match the 2009 stats presented just above with his comment, including TD, passes, yds, YAR and DYAR -- does this table take out the Tennesee game or take out week 17 as discussed in comment? Doesn't seem like it should.

Maybe I am missing something. A couple of Ryan stats in table 1 off slightly too from stats in comment(int and yds).

Thanks for getting the book out.

Re: The FOA2010 Typos And Corrections Thread
by Key19 :: Fri, 07/09/2010 - 8:50pm

A handful from the statistical appendix:

In the box "Top 20 Defenders in Hurries" (p 563), the final column is titled 'Hits', when it should probably be 'Hurries'.

On the following page, in the box "Bottom 10 QBs in Knockdowns per pass", an 11th QB has been listed: Aaron Rodgers, who doesn't qualify.

On page 566, two extra names have crept into the bottom of the box entitled "Top 20 passing yards allowed in coverage."

On the same page, the rankings 1-20 (with lots of ties) in "Top 20 TDs/1st downs allowed in coverage" don't match the numbers in the right-hand column.

Continuity corner:
p431: [of Donald Lee]: "He's a reliable pair of hands."
p565: Top 20 Players, Percentage Passes Dropped: #6 Donald Lee, GB, 14.8%.

I'm guessing that Keith Null's -208 DVOA when hurried isn't a typo, although it feels like it ought to be.

Oh, and it's a really really good read, as always, pedantry aside.

28
Re: The FOA2010 Typos And Corrections Thread
by Aaron Schatz :: Fri, 07/09/2010 - 11:00am

The Aaron Rodgers thing is not a typo. That's a tie for tenth between two players, thus 11 players are listed.

29
Re: The FOA2010 Typos And Corrections Thread
by ammek :: Fri, 07/09/2010 - 11:09am

But Rodgers' name appears as equal tenth in two tables: both top and bottom 10 QBs' knockdown percentage. He's tied with Redman in the first table, Palmer in the second.

Bengals chapter: Pierre Garçon was a sophomore, not a rookie in 2009 (p 56).

I'm not sure if it's exactly the same stat you're using but the box on p54 gives Cincy the #1 hardest schedule in the league, and the text says it's #2 behind Cleveland. The text also implies that Pittsburgh is one of the projected top two teams in DVOA, although it's only fourth in estimated wins — is that correct?

Re: The FOA2010 Typos And Corrections Thread
by Arkaein :: Sun, 07/11/2010 - 8:24pm

Either a typo or just a confusing statement regarding Ashley Lelie and DHB and DHB's player sections. It states that:

"Heyward-Bey finished just ahead of Ashley Lelie’s 2008 campaign with the Raiders, when Lelie had a 24 percent rate on 45 targets."

Right after saying that DHB's catch rate was 23%. In the Denver chapter it mentions that DHB was just better than Lelie in terms of +/-, however the working here seems to imply that 23% catch rate is better than 24% since +/- is not mentioned until two sentences later.

We'll clarify that in the comment, but the 2007-09 seasons took place at Syracuse, not in the NFL, which is why they're not in the table.

Ah, I should have looked closer at his age. I wondered why I couldn't remember these fantastic NFL seasons of his.

Page 281: "Return men Antwaan Randle El and Rock Cartwright were released and traded, respectively, and they have no obvious successors."

They were actually both released.

Page 281: Not sure if this is an error or I am misunderstanding. It says Reed Doughty had 84 plays with a TmPct of 41.3%. That percent seems really high to me. I am probably missing something but thought I would bring it to your attention.

Ooh, big one there. Doughty was mistakenly credited with 4 games (his 2008 total) instead of 15, and since TmPct is adjusted for games played, his TmPct was basically four times higher than it should be.

OK, everyone. We submitted the book today for publication. Gotta get that paper copy out! Thanks to everybody who helped us find mistakes, and as always, we'll try harder to avoid them next year (and likely fail, heh).

Well, it might be too late, but it's too much fun to stop now.

Redskins special teams section: "Gano battled and lost to Shane Hauschka in Ravens camp". Steven Hauschka?

SackSEER section, table 2: worst sackseer projections. Jarvis Moss from Florida was apparently also drafted by Florida.

Page 78 refers to "Scott" Suisham. I think this should be Shaun?

p. 11 "faired" should be "fared"
p. 20 says that Baltimore lost to Pittsburgh in overtime; they won the overtime game and lost the other game in regulation

Packer Schedule

Found this in the G.Jennings write-up "the impending leap in difficulty for Green Bay’s schedule". According to your "Projected Average Opponent" GB has the 14th toughest schedule and last year it was 13th toughest.
