Getting Mike Wallace

I've been enamored with Mike Wallace since reading the FO Almanac but failed to land him in my draft. I like my squad but would like to get Wallace just so I can say I had him before he blew up (i.e. when Ben comes back). I could also use some more RB depth but recently dropped Ricky Williams for Brandon Jackson. Here's my squad in a standard Yahoo league with 8 teams.

QB: Tom Brady
WR: Greg Jennings, Miles Austin
RB: Adrian Peterson, Jamaal Charles
WR/R: Brandon Jackson
TE: Zach Miller

Bench: Hines Ward, Jeremy Maclin, Santana Moss, Matt Forte, Justin Forsett, Matt Ryan

The owner of Mike Wallace just lost Ryan Grant. He has:

QB: Drew Brees
WR: Steve Smith (Giants), Ochocinco
RB: Ray Rice, Cedric Benson
W/R: Wes Welker
TE: Shiancoe

Bench: Brent Celek, Marion Barber, Thomas Jones, Mike Wallace, Fred Taylor, Legedu Naanee.

Who should I offer for Wallace? Is either Moss or Maclin straight up a fair offer, or perhaps too much?

I'm higher on Moss than Maclin because Moss is the clear #1 and has a better QB situation. I think you're pretty well set at WR that you can afford to give up Maclin if you really like Wallace.

You've got plenty of solid WR options. In this context, what you're really trading is upside, or the option of future value. Hines Ward, Greg Jennings, and Miles Austin are all relatively steady, proven assets.

There is a small probability that Wallace will totally break out and become marginally more valuable than either of your starters. However, there is a smaller probability, in my opinion, that Maclin will do the same. On the flipside, the downside of this trade is that Wallace flops or gets injured and loses all trade value... Big deal, no fantasy owner ever wins it all playing it safe.

Thus, if you can do the deal and you really want Wallace, go for it.

Thanks for the input. I'll see how Moss, Maclin, and Wallace do in the upcoming weeks and then make a decision.
