I'm trying to wrap my head around the Hole in Zone stat. The book shows 13% league average.
Is this how often teams were in a zone pass defense averaged across the league?
Please explain this stat a bit more.

From the Stat Toolbox on page xx in the front of the book:
"We asked charters to mark passes that found the holes in zone coverage as Hole in Zone, rather than straining to assign that pass to an individual defender. We asked the charter to also note the player who appeared to be responsible for that zone, and these defenders are assigned half credit for those passes. Some holes were so large that no defender could be listed along with the Hole in Zone designation."
