Jets Make A Bad Trade Getting Edwards

I think this trade is the exact same trade as the White Sox getting Alex Rios this year. Both teams are getting a fairly young player that has big time experience; however neither is very good and teams want them solely on one outlier good season.
I don't think Braylon Edwards is very good, and I don't think he really boosts the Jets offense.

Edwards had a fantastic season in 2007 when he caught 80 passes for over 1275 yards and 16 TDs. But what has he done since? We've all heard the ESPN stats how he leads the league in drops. His Y/R has gone down this '07 along with his receptions. In fact, in four full seasons, Edwards has only gone over 900 yards once- in '07. To me Edwards is having the Roy E. Williams effect. Williams had one amazing season in Detroit. Then he gets traded to Dallas and is expected to be a superstar, only to be a dud

So let's analyze Edwards and see what we can find.

It is a bad long term trade for the Jets, a good short term solution to helping sanchez.

This is the last year of Bray's contract -- meaning he is going to demand a new contract from the jets next year. The jets will look to offer him 6-7 mill a year saying he is not an elite WR and the jets should get a discount for getting him out of clevland - but i think he will will want roddy white & greg jennings money 8-10 mill a year.

The raiders i am sure would be willing to pay this as would the skins. Meaning the jets will need to make a bad contract again which can hurt them for years to come.

Also giving away a 3rd (possibly 2nd) and a 5th round pick is bad business. rookies are productive and cheap, just look at the Giants. They develope their own guys and if they think they are worth the money they let them stick around. But they let other teams pay their players, Gibril Wilson is the best example.

Unless a new CBA is signed I believe Edwards will be a restricted free agent, so the Jets can keep him if they want.

lol, Edwards is a horrid team player and sucks at catching. what he does have is elite athletic talent. It does not manifest itself on the field very often, but he is a boom bust player, that you bet to bust....and usually win

It was a great trade for Cleveland, and the Jets get a guy that gets double teamed for about 1.7-2M a year next year. They could have done worse.

He has one year to prove that he is worthy of a long term deal, otherwise you play it out w/ them and be gone.

It was worth the risk foir the Jets and the Browns creamed themselves to get rid of this cancer and brain damaged patient
