please help me knock some sense into my idiot league-mates!!

my fantasy league has this crazy draft order where instead of the picks reversing in the even-numbered rounds (the so-called "serpentine" or "snake" drafts), the draft order starts at the first pick again. In other words, in a ten-team league, the eleventh pick goes to the team with the first pick, the twelfth pick goes to the team with the second pick, etc. I say it is absolutely retarded and gives the teams with the top picks way too much power. My commish says it's just like how the NFL does it and that's what matters. Please help me talk some sense into this fool.

How is order decided? Standings from last year, or random?

1. You could be polite - it's hard to get someone to change their mind while you're calling them a fool.

2. You could point out that everyone desperately wants an early draft spot, and would be upset if they got a late pick, which means that this draft order isn't fair - early spots give a big advantage.

3. You could explain that there's a reason why the NFL uses that draft order - it is trying to give a big advantage to teams with early picks. Since they were bad last year, they get a chance to improve their team so that the league can stay balanced. Unless you have a dynasty league with draft order based on last year's finish, that doesn't apply to your league.

4. You could point out that there's lots of discussion of draft formats for fantasy football (e.g. here), and different leagues use different formats, but no one uses this same-order-every-round draft order.

5. You could point out that there are lots of ways in which your fantasy league is different from the NFL - you get points for yards, sacks, etc. not just for scoring, you start two halfbacks every game, etc. It's fantasy football. So no need to copy the NFL's draft format.

On NFL teams there are 53 players, in FF teams, there are much less.

On NFL teams, during the off season, you can sign free agents, draft and sign players who weren't drafted. When you report to training camp, you can have up to 80 players. You don't get to expand your roster in the off season.

On NFL teams, the majority of your team is players who played for you last year. The exception is if you really, really suck (Like the Dolphins who went 1-15 in 2007, then made the playoffs in 2008. Even they still had about 40% of the same players). I have never played in a keeper league, but I doubt they let you keep 51% of your players.

These.

I might also point out fantasy football is for having fun, not simulating the NFL. If they want to do that play Madden Franchise mode.

The only way your league's current system would make ANY sense is if you had a keeper league where a great majority of your roster could be kept and the worst teams got the first picks.

If this is not the case then find/form a new league.

I emphatically agree with the points so far, but I just wanted to say if you and your friends have decided to "make the league interesting" I'd be doubly pissed off.
