Should I drop Anth. Gonzalez and pick someone up off of waivers?

I didn't know if this was the best forum for this. Here's my roster in a 1 PPR league with 6 pts for PaTD. We start 2 RB, 2 WR, and 1 WR/RB/TE.

QB: Rivers, Garrard
RB: S Jax, R Bush, L Wash, F Jones, J Norwood
WR: R Moss, D Bowe, A Gonz, T Holt, E Royal, D Hester
TE: JerMichael Finley

Just throw names out there to pick up, if I should even do that. I can't list everyone who is available, of course. I thought maybe Kolb, but I guess he didn't look that good.

No. He's only out a few weeks, and when he comes back he should be better than several of the players on your roster. If you want to pick someone up, drop Finley or Norwood.

Forgot to include that we're required to start a TE, so if I drop Finley, it's for another TE.

Norwood is gonna break out this year - I swear! (I've said this the past two years as well... sigh...)

Your depth at WR is good enough to weather his absence. I have him in two leagues myself, one with an IR spot, one without. Won't be fun holding onto him in the second league, but unless it turns out he's hurt worse than initially reported, it doesn't seem worthwhile to grab Crayton or Meachem for a few weeks.

I just put Gonzalez on IR. So I still get to hold him and add a player. He just can't play for 2 weeks.

I added Louis Murphy. He looked like he will be Russell's favorite target this year based on what I saw last night.

I contemplated adding Laurent Robinson, Miles Austin, Josh Cribbs, or Randle-El, but have a better feeling about Murphy.

Robinson is a starter but plays for a totally inept offense. The Rams play calling is horrible.

Austin suffers from having to share the ball with too many other Dallas receivers.

Cribbs is more of a return guy and I don't get credit for that in my league.

Randle-El is not a starting WR.

Just my 2 cents.I just put Gonzalez on IR. So I still get to hold him and add a player. He just cant play for 2 weeks.

Are Pierre Galcon or Austin Collie worth picking up in Anthony Gonzalez's place for the time being?

I have a similar quandary, except that I'm a little more desperate to pick up a replacement WR since we need to start 3 and I only had 4.

League is PPR, starts 3 WRs. Returns yards are 1 point per 50.

My team:
QB: Philip Rivers, Shaun Hill
RB: Frank Gore, Brandon Jacobs, Knowshon Moreno, Julius Jones, James Dvis
WR: Vincent Jackson, Donnie Avery, Domenik Hixon, Anthony Gonzalez
TE: Zach Miller, Marcedes Lewis
D: New York
K: Viniatieri

I'd likely drop my backup QB or TE for a WR, but the best on the waiver wire seem to be
Mario Manningham
Davone Bess
Michael Clayton
Laurent Robinson
Miles Austin

Any help?

Bess is a solid PPR play. I wouldn't count on him for more than catching passes, but he does quite a bit of that.

I had Hixon and dropped him. Eli doesn't look for him even with Nicks out. And it's not like the Giants throw the ball all that much anyway. I'd choose between Robinson and Austin. Robinson will get a lot more opportunities but Austin plays for a much better offense. Actually, if I were you I'd drop Hixon and pick-up both of them.

Doesn't Donnie Avery have a sprained foot? Someone in my league just dropped him.

Toe, yeah.

He broke a toe before the season, but it seems to have healed a while back. Bulger is Avery's biggest concern.

Here's what's developed since I originally posted this.

- Gonzalez has sprained PCL; possibly out 8 weeks, which means a huge portion of the fantasy regular season.
- I dropped Finley and picked up Heap in his place
- Because of KUBIAK ratings and bye week matchups, D Bess and D Avery are the best-looking pickups for me on waviers.

Now let's just state the obvious. On a points-per-games-played basis, none of those guys matches up with Gonzalez. But they will likely outscore him when the season is all said and done, I'd think. Since the idea isn't to score the most points on your bench, but to field the best team, that would suggest I keep Gonzalez. But I'm basically eating a roster spot by doing so.

I lose Bowe and Moss week 8, Royal and Holt week 7. So, week eight matters a lot to me! Bess faces NO and NYJ in Week 7 and Week 8. Avery has IND, DET. KUBIAK likes Bess more over the season, but Avery has the best matchup in week 8.

Still nah

I wouldn't rush to drop Gonzalez or Hester, but if you do pick someone up, go with Avery.

Avery's floor is the #2 WR (behind Robinson) in a bad offense with a has been and a never was at QB. So, basically, last season. His ceiling is the #1 WR in a decent pass-heavy, constantly trailing offense.

Bess' floor is sitting on the bench behind Ginn, Camarillo and/or Hartline. His ceiling is the #2 WR, catching dumpoff passes to maybe clear double digits in PPR leagues. Basically, weeks 12-17 of last season. Maybe better if Henne takes over at QB, but that's a big if.

Just wanted to note that we're talking about Henne taking over for last year's runner-up for the MVP award. I like Chad Pennington, but he'd drive me mad if he played for my Texans, so I understand that you're actually serious about Henne taking over! It'd put Pennington in great position for a 3rd Comeback Player of the Year award though.
