What? Maybe it was a bit blunt way of dscribing it... but i t's the truth, both got hurt in NON-contact situations. Both are great wr's. Something tells me the Pats WR corps is a bit thinner than the Colts....

That sound you heard was the bomb to Wallace. Defenders got tangled up and Wallace was open.
Expect a run heavy drive from the Dolphins after this. Or a big kick return :D

Re: Week 17 Open Discussion Thread
by andrew :: Sun, 01/03/2010 - 2:38pm

Peterson can't catch a break. He doesn't touch the ball first two drives, while Taylor and Harvin get good runs... they finally give it to him on the third drive, and the Giants run blitz, there are two giants two yards behind the line of scrimmage before Peterson even gets the ball and he loses 5 yards.

As I write that he breaks off a 23 yard run, dragging people the last 5 (with both hands on a death grip on the ball

spam filter woes, 6 attempts to get throughl.

14
Re: Week 17 Open Discussion Thread
by andrew :: Sun, 01/03/2010 - 3:16pm

I don't know, but this one wasn't even close,,, the line of scrimmage was the 15, he threw it from around the 11. The pass was caught and ruled out of bounds (it was close) but obviously moot.

Aside from that he's been pretty much on fire. It could be worse than 24-0, he just had a 50 yard td to Harvin called back on offensive PI (couldn't see it in the replay).

I thought I just read a quote from Brady saying he would play the whole game, regardless of score. Now I see Brian Hoyer 4/5 for 35 at the 2-minute warning.

Injury, or just typical Patriots dissembling?

Re: Week 17 Open Discussion Thread
by andrew :: Sun, 01/03/2010 - 4:14pm

to be fair, they've blown out the Giants a few times since then.

Heck, if anything their most recent memory of the Giants is the Giants pulling starters to let the Vikings into the playoffs last year.

edit - although they made the score 41-0... but nah. I don't think a single player on that team is still on the Vikings, nor the coaching staff, hard pressed to think of anyonein the organization...

The Vikings just went for it on 4th and Goal up 34-0 against the Giants. Not quite sure I understand that.

Not sure I understand how they failed on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd down either, though, given how the Giants are playing. What an embarrassing effort these past two weeks.

Tyler Thigpen sighting as Pat White just got knocked out with a side-side helmet hit from Ike Taylor. I thought he might have died on the spot in real time as vicious and loud as it was. Good to see him moving.

Re: Week 17 Open Discussion Thread

White was scrambling out to the right looking to get out of bounds but was tripped from behind and fell forward straight Ike Taylor's helmet, who had already gone low to try and tackle. Totally accidental but sickening nonetheless.

61
Re: Week 17 Open Discussion Thread
by CoachDave :: Sun, 01/03/2010 - 5:15pm

Having seen the replay, I disagree wholeheartedly with your description as "accidental".

Taylor was leading with his helmet the whole time...which of course is so shocking for Ike Taylor, he never spears when making a tackle.

And yes, that was sarcasm.

Re: Week 17 Open Discussion Thread

The Colts have some bizarre priorities. Going for an undefeated season is not important, but getting two receivers to 100 catches (which only seems interesting because we have ten fingers) is worth playing for.

43
Re: Week 17 Open Discussion Thread

I predict that it will involve a healthy investigation into how the #1 ranked team by DOVA could get shellacked so badly... followed by a rationalization of why DVOA is not a flawed ranking, and how it represents "true performance on the field" or whatnot.

Re: Week 17 Open Discussion Thread

DVOA does not particularly like boom-or-bust players. There are exceptions, but by-and-large that appears to me to be the case.

It does, however, seem to adore boom-or-bust teams-- so long as they boom often.

I am not sure that boom-or-bust teams go as deep into the playoffs as their DVOA ratings would suggest.

Re: Week 17 Open Discussion Thread

Speaking of DVOA, I'd be very interested to see Dallas' defense DVOA for the last 4 games. The defense was ranked 15th (and still a positive score) through last week but their last several games has to put them near the top.
