Just what the Raiders need -- another Cable bombshell this morning. How does this team show up to play even as little as they do?
Apparently Cable's ex-wife and one of his former girlfriends (going from memory, so I could be wrong about what exactly their relationships to him were) are saying that he was violent and physically abusive. One said that when they broke up/divorced, she suggested counseling and that made him even angrier (and apparently she was surprised by this--I have a psychology degree and I can tell you that telling anyone they should get any kind of counseling or therapy almost always makes them angry).
Honestly, to NFL peoples (players, coaches, executives, etc.), it probably doesn't matter. Perhaps I'm overly cynical, but they really don't seem to care at all about domestic violence-type situations. In fact, I would say the same is true for all sports. After all, Brett Myers is currently in the World Series.

Thanks B. Bulger's apparently okay - at least until the game starts. Just discovered Stafford's in for the Lions anyway, which makes that simpler.
In seriousness, I would go with Bulger just because he's facing the worst pass defense of those three, but I think they'll all be about equal in the end.

McNabb throws a TD to make me curse benching him in one fantasy league. Then they realize that if he had time to throw a 10-yard pass, Jason Peters must have been holding and sure enough, he was.
2 plays later they throw seemingly the exact same pass from 20 yards out and the Eagles are up 13-0.

Weird play--Tuck hits McNabb's pass and as he's bobbling it, McNabb hits it away and then catches it and runs. He doesn't really get anything, but still a weird play.

TO made his league leading 8th drop of the season in the end zone forcing Buffalo to kick a field goal. It looks like he somehow managed to get outmuscled by Jacque Reeves on a fade route. Rich Gannon blames the drop on Fitzpatrick for some unknown, unknowable reason.
Is it possible that the reason DVOA has trouble with the Eagles is that they always do what the Cardinals apparently did late last season? It seems every year they lose a couple of games that make them look like crap against pathetic opponents and then they suddenly show up and dominate against a tough opponent. Maybe they really just don't try during those bad games.

49ers v.Colts
by TLivingston :: Sun, 11/01/2009 - 3:47pm
The 49ers could actually be up more than 14-9 at the half.
For whatever reason, Mike Singletary and Jimmy Raye still want to establish the run, but the run game outside of that long TD run from Gore (where the Colts didn't tackle well at all) has been pedestrian. When they spread it out a bit, they're much more successful. Smith's arm is fine and now that he has Vernon Davis playing at an All-Pro level along with Crabtree's emergence, they need to exploit that a lot more than banging Gore up as much as they have.
Meanwhile, Manning's been having trouble reading some of these blitz coverages, but the problem is that he's leaving a lot of balls up high or long for his receivers. 49ers are doing a good job of mixing him up, though, as they haven't allowed a big play all game. Bend but don't break seems to be working.

I think their charts must say "up by 6 is better than up by 5": Miami chose to try for 13 rather than 12, right after Indy chose to try for 6 rather than 5. Both failed, unfortunately.

Miami scores a TD to go up by 11, and they go for two. Simms says it's not the right call, and I'm forced to agree.
Fox gives us a view of [Vikings QB's] entrance. How exciting. However, I must say it was sort of interesting that the Packer fans seem to have decided on an unusual combination of booing and applause (it looked like most were doing both at the same time) as a response.

Interesting to be able to hear the umpire during the Colts game.
During the 2PC, while Manning was calling signals, you could hear the linebacker saying, "Excuse me! Move! Move!" to the ump. Then the ump said, "Where are you going?" The linebacker replied, "That way!"
It seems to me like something's wrong there. The LB was spending too much time talking to somebody behind him seconds before the snap. Is that the LB's fault or the ump's?
Do you think that happens a lot? I've never been able to hear it before.

I've played linebacker and that guy is sometimes just next to you.

Sometimes you're friendly, sometimes you tell him. They understand and try not to be involved in the game.
Funny to hear it on a broadcast though.

Giants attempt a 47-yard FG down by 23 with 9:21 to play in the fourth. The Football Gods, fittingly offended, cause a miss. And TMQ just wrote "Game over."
It looks like the defense still played fairly well.

Walt Coleman's crew in the Baltimore-Denver game is terrible. I'm not sure what is going on, and I'm not a Raven's fan, but this is ridiculous. I'm not sure whether it is Coleman or just one or more of the refs, but there have been several totally bogus calls coming from the wrong refs, all the way across the field and way after the play is over. There is at least one ref who needs to be suspended and investigated after this game.

Seattle with what's effectively a garbage time TD. 38-17 Dallas.
I am afraid of Green Bay crashing the party, but otherwise it's difficult to see how it doesn't happen. The Giants don't seem to have the offense for it, the Cowboys don't seem to have the defense, and the Falcons don't seem to have the defense. I still don't know what to make of the Cardinals, but I just don't see them getting there.

Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
by Theo :: Sun, 11/01/2009 - 5:02pm
the commentator rightfully said that it was one quarter and 5 minutes too late.
They should've been in hurry up right after half time.
I can not imagine that an NFL coach gives up after a half. That's what he did.
He was visibly screaming at his team in the middle of the 3rd quarter to hurry up. The announcers complained that he wasn't making his team hurry up (as he was doing this screaming on-screen). Now late they're complaining about how he waited far too long before doing that.
249
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
by Theo :: Sun, 11/01/2009 - 5:08pm
That could be, but if he was in a hurry, then why was he calling a FG in the 2nd half? Why the screen passes and running plays?
I think he was acting like a coach in a hurry, but was not being one.
I actually think that he was just thinking, "Maybe we can get it together and come back" and screaming then and then when the team didn't respond and couldn't move the ball he gave up and just went through the motions of saying he wanted to hurry. I didn't see him do it in between the middle of the third and the end of the 4th, so he may not have been at all in that time.
Aikman just said the hardest part for [Vikings QB] would be getting dressed in the visitors' locker room. Does that mean he may come out without pants or something? Accidentally wearing Kevin Williams's jersey?

So it's the great GB defense. vs the packers offense that did very well against the steelers defense.
I think the GB D will take away the pass. The Vikes will struggle but will take some FGs.
The Packers will do fine against the D, and score 27 points against 16 of the Pack.
[Vikings QB] makes a brilliant move by throwing a screen to Taylor on third-and-five when there's a defender in easy position to make a play. Then, Johnny Jolly of the Packers pulls one of the dumbest moves in football history and head butts Taylor to give the Vikings a first down.

I don't know any more. I saw Bradshaw (NYG) throw a punch last week and not get ejected. Maybe you have to sleep with Goodell's wife on the sideline.
That rule has exceptions in subsection G-1.426 to the fifth power as long as requirements of section 2(a)(5)(B)(iv) subsection 8 are also met, but overall you're right.

fuck you, Vikings QB. You did an awesome job handing the ball to the best running back in the league. I also can't stand jared allen. Good player, but those lame ass celebrations after he makes a play...although it's better than that stupid samurai thing that barnett used to do for the packers
I like Jared Allen. If nothing else, there is the great description of whether there was a schism in the Vikings locker room over the new QB: (I'm going from memory, so it's probably not perfect) "When I heard that I went, 'whoa,' 'cause I thought that was some sort of STD or somethin' and we preach abstinence here."

Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Cos if they don't, coach is coming for THEM.
(Allegedly.)
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
What is the bombshell? I haven't seen anything.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
The Giants are missing three starters on defense, Bradshaw and Jacobs are hobbled and Manningham might not play. In theory, the Eagles should win easily if, IF, Donovan McNabb's evil twin Seamus has ended his annual visit. I hate Seamus.

Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
My completely subjective thinking has homefield balance that out significantly.
Granted, it also has Carolina run the ball on every offensive play and Jake Delhomme only fumble the snap three times.

Okay, so I totally blew the homefield call. I was sure they were playing at Carolina.
Still, seems something balanced it out regardless.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Just realised with Big Ben on bye, I have a choice between Hasselbeck, Bulger, and Culpepper to QB my fantasy team this week... I'm doomed. Kill me now.
...any tips?
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Based on the fact that the Rams are playing the Lions, I'd start Bulger. Unless he's hurt.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Thanks B. Bulger's apparently okay - at least until the game starts. Just discovered Stafford's in for the Lions anyway, which makes that simpler.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Go back to 2004?
In seriousness, I would go with Bulger just because he's facing the worst pass defense of those three, but I think they'll all be about equal in the end.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
No kidding - what a trio of QBs that would have been five years ago!
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
I think you would have to be punished by the fantasy gods for having such a trio. Possibly by being forced to have them again 5 years later.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
My other league, where Brady's my starter, my options this week were Delhomme, Bulger, JaMarcus, Anderson, and Stafford. I think I just entered fantasy purgatory.

Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
It was a 3rd and 1, and the Giants were clearly expecting an inside run, so Vick just took off and picked up the 1 on the edge. It might not seem exciting, but it's a solid 3rd and short play. And considering those haven't gone that well for the Eagles in recent years, that's cool by me.

Broncos mmoving the ball a little bit - two minute warning at the Bronco 40.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Yes, and that accuracy improved noticeably as soon as the cast came off his finger. I actually feel fine about Orton. Better than I did about Cutler, anyway (and I know we have disagreements there).
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
I would take Cutler any day - no doubt. However: Orton has reached "best case scenario" for me. This level of production, and absence of turnovers is all a broncos-fan could've hoped for.

Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Seattle offsides on back-to-back plays to give Dallas a first down.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread

TO made his league leading 8th drop of the season in the end zone forcing Buffalo to kick a field goal. It looks like he somehow managed to get outmuscled by Jacque Reeves on a fade route. Rich Gannon blames the drop on Fitzpatrick for some unknown, unknowable reason.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
The Raiders front office has released the following statement: "Rich Gannon is complaining becauze he sucks. Screw Rich Gannon."
The NFL is investigating why Al Davis is commenting.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
What are the niners doing to stop Manning?
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
They found a time machine, and went back to 2001.
"Playoffs? Don't talk to me about Playoffs."
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Is it possible that the reason DVOA has trouble with the Eagles is that they always do what the Cardinals apparently did late last season? It seems every year they lose a couple of games that make them look like crap against pathetic opponents and then they suddenly show up and dominate against a tough opponent. Maybe they really just don't try during those bad games.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Roy Williams for the Dallas TD. It's under review, but it should stand easily.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
TD confirmed. 21-10 Dallas with :35 to go in first half.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Brandon Jacobs attempts an impersonation of Devin Hester.
That wasn't a good idea.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
he took 3 steps where Hester would make 19.
The Eagles look good to me the past few weeks. I'm calling Saints and Eagles in the NFC final.

Victor Butler with a nice hit on the Seattle KO return.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Eagles up 30-7 at halftime and the score doesn't reflect how bad Eli has looked. I hate to pick on the guy, but he's looking like Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Dierdorf's blathering that the Denver O-line has been getting abused. I haven't been watching. Is he accurate?
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
ABSOLUTELY. for once. Been getting killed all day - weird.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Webb returns the kick off for a Ravens TD. Rats.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Ravens return second half KO for TD. Great run.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Ravens 13, Broncos 0
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Good game so far between Niners and Colts. We'll see if the Niners can hang on (probably not).
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Ravens get tagged for what looks like a horrible DPI call. Marshall has mastered his begging skills.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
He learned to whine from Cutler.
It was too easy to pass it up.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
The NFL should have an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for begging and whining. They should call it that too. Begging and whining.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
I agree.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
I vote "puling." That's one of my favorite words.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
I like it.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Bizarre play! Orton fakes to RB. Fakes end around. Goes 50 yards down field to Marshall in double coverage. Phantom PI called. Late. Very, very late.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Orton nails the upright on a pass he throws from about the 10-yard line.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Did anyone else notice the graphic on the 49ers first series?
It said: "ALEX SMITH--LAST START: LOST AT SEA."
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
lol
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
that's great
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Denver goes for it on 4th and one. The play comes up short but the Ravens are offsides. 1st and goal Denver.
49ers v.Colts
Re: 49ers v.Colts
As soon as I say it, two big third down conversions for Manning. Third down DVOA in the first half will probably be pretty bad, but it's looking good early in the third.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Slow developing sweeps or stretches with Ed Reed on the field, will just not work. Ever.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Ngata down for the Ravens. Doesn't look good at the moment.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Ngata walks off the field under his own power, though slowly. Lewis tagged for DPI in the end zone. Denver scores on the next play. 13-7 Ravens.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
The Giants fumble the ball away. The Eagles are having trouble getting on the field instead of just falling down laughing at the Giants' incompetence.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Alex Smith, Vernon Davis, and Michael Crabtree all look pretty good against a pretty solid defense.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Oh no! Someone divided by 0 again.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
It should be mentioned that on SF's TD drive, Smith looked right on every play except the touchdown pass. We might be in for a 2nd-half meltdown after Indy makes some adjustments.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
When are offset penalties "replay of down" and when are they offset and "result of the play stands"?
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
To a first approximation, the result of the play stands when the penalties occur after the play.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Officials in Broncos-Ravens game throwing a lot of late flags half way across the field from the call.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
I just got to look at the first drive by Colts of the second half -- wow, the offensive line is playing really poorly. Pure luck to move the ball close enough to get a FG. They'll need to be better if they have any chance to win, or the D will have to score.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
I give Tom Coughlin credit--Giants just went for it on 4th-and-4 on the Eagles' 29. It didn't work out, but credit for trying anyway.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
TMQ will be happy!
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
OK -- what is the reason that Houston can not seem to find a way to get the ball to any of their receivers inside the 10? There ought to be too many options to stop, right? First the Cardinals game, now this....
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
The Giants seem to have borrowed the Titans' defensive gameplan from their game against New England.

No. It's sympathy viewing because Tanier had to read "Monday Night Jihad".
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Elam should write a sequel, "Sunday Afternoon Feces". A terrorist wants to plant a bomb at an NFL game, but gets confused and puts it in the wrong spot. It goes off as planned, but all it does is blow up a large septic tank, covering the field with a thick layer of feces. And nobody notices, because it's Lions-Rams.

Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Wow.
Sack-fumble-lateral. By the giants.
Let's see if it stands.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Umenyiora scores a defensive TD on a "fumble" by Mcnabb that looks to me like an incomplete pass. Reid is now challenging.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Note for future: Do not make comments like "looks to me like an incomplete pass" before the replays run.
However, they rule that the lateral was an illegal forward pass (and that looks right to me after seeing the replays) and so there is no touchdown.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Why is Andy Reid challenging this?
ETA: was clearly a fumble, but the lateral wasn't a lateral, apparently. Huh.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Romo to Jones to the 8-yard line. First and goal Dallas. Lucas injured when Jones runs him over.

I'm going crazy. The Broncos defenders have contact with Flacco half of his dropbacks. But he's just sooo huge he can easily escape and complete passes downfield. This is with Roethlisberger comming up...
Flacco to Mason. Laser. 23-7 = ballgame.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
That is a bad sign. However, with the way that division is looking, no need to worry unless they lose about 5 in a row.

what broadcast are you watching in Denmark?
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Illegal peer-to-peer, shhh...
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Why wasn't Braylon Edwards ruled "forward progress stopped" on that TD?
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Ok, so I have the philly D and Brandon Jacobs, after they run Jacobs a bunch of times, no down near the goal line, I'm thinking, well at least these two will cancel each other out. Nope. Let's run bradshaw. Yuck.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Does anyone have a competitive game? I'm suffering through Seahawks-Cowboys and Broncos-Ravens.

Mia/NYJ is very competitive.

Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Mine are both blowouts. Surprisingly enough, 49ers-Colts is the one I wish I had.

I don't think he deserves it.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
"I saw a guy with the football and he wasn't wearing our jersey, so I hit him."

Seems like a fair principle to apply as fans--he's not in our jersey so we'll boo him.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
McCoy goes 71 yards for the TD. Eagles-40, Giants-17.
Hail Hydra!
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
LeSean McCoy just outruns everyone for a TD. I'm not sure how I feel about him today, but that was a good run.

Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
If the Giants go for a FG again, someone should be fired.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
But they won a Super Bowl. Therefore, everyone there is forevermore a genius.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Feagles just missed a FG.
That coach should just take off his headphones and call it a day.
Pathetic.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
I guess the Miami offense was jealous of the D/ST. :)
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
What a bizarre 2pt decision though.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
I think their charts must say "up by 6 is better than up by 5": Miami chose to try for 13 rather than 12, right after Indy chose to try for 6 rather than 5. Both failed, unfortunately.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Then the Jets go for two, get it, and it's called back for an illegal shift. Second attempt fails. Ow.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Miami scores a TD to go up by 11, and they go for two. Simms says it's not the right call, and I'm forced to agree.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Broken clock>Phil Simms
Apologize to the clocks.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Fox gives us a view of [Vikings QB's] entrance. How exciting. However, I must say it was sort of interesting that the Packer fans seem to have decided on an unusual combination of booing and applause (it looked like most were doing both at the same time) as a response.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread

Allow me to be the first to say "screw you and the horse you rode in on, Ryan Moats."
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Are you suggesting Ryan Moats isn't himself a horse?
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Interesting to be able to hear the umpire during the Colts game.
During the 2PC, while Manning was calling signals, you could hear the linebacker saying, "Excuse me! Move! Move!" to the ump. Then the ump said, "Where are you going?" The linebacker replied, "That way!"
It seems to me like something's wrong there. The LB was spending too much time talking to somebody behind him seconds before the snap. Is that the LB's fault or the ump's?
Do you think that happens a lot? I've never been able to hear it before.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
That does seem weird. I have no idea, though, how often it happens.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
I've played linebacker and that guy is sometimes just next to you.
So you tell him, move, I gotta go there.
Sometimes you're friendly, sometimes you tell him. They understand and try not to be involved in the game.
Funny to hear it on a broadcast though.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Giants attempt a 47-yard FG down by 23 with 9:21 to play in the fourth. The Football Gods, fittingly offended, cause a miss. And TMQ just wrote "Game over."

Expect a few punts down the road.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
An ugly loss for te broncos. Boy.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
It looks like the defense still played fairly well.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Walt Coleman's crew in the Baltimore-Denver game is terrible. I'm not sure what is going on, and I'm not a Raven's fan, but this is ridiculous. I'm not sure whether it is Coleman or just one or more of the refs, but there have been several totally bogus calls coming from the wrong refs, all the way across the field and way after the play is over. There is at least one ref who needs to be suspended and investigated after this game.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Seattle with what's effectively a garbage time TD. 38-17 Dallas.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
I predicted Eagles and Saints for the NFC championship game (and waffled nonstop on who would win). I'm feeling good about that at this point.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
It took me a few weeks, but this seems like a lock to me.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
I am afraid of Green Bay crashing the party, but otherwise it's difficult to see how it doesn't happen. The Giants don't seem to have the offense for it, the Cowboys don't seem to have the defense, and the Falcons don't seem to have the defense. I still don't know what to make of the Cardinals, but I just don't see them getting there.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Thanks, Fox, for sticking with the philly game instead of switching to, oh, say, the 49ers-Indy? Hell, I'd even take Detroit-Cleveland over this...

They don't want to have some other game taking time away from the Green Bay Orgy.

Stephen Jackson scores! The Rams have victory in sight! 98-yard-drive to put the game away!
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Yep, I understand, Harris. If it were my packers blowing out the vikings by this score, I would say the same thing.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
If it's any consolation, I think all of America hopes the Packers stomp a mudhole in the Vikings' ass today.
Hail Hydra!
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Kyle Orton just passed the century mark with 1:07 left in the 4th quarter. Back to reality he has came.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
That, or the Ravens defense found the old form they lost three games ago.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Or the Ravens improved and Orton had a bad day. He looked far too good before for me to say that this is "reality."
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Whhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahha.
Coughlin is making these 'hurry up' movements with his hand. Just after they let the playclock move to 1 second.
What do you think? You're going to score, take the onside, score, take the onside, score take the onside and score within 2 minutes? LOL
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
the commentator rightfully said that it was one quarter and 5 minutes too late.
They should've been in hurry up right after half time.
I can not imagine that an NFL coach gives up after a half. That's what he did.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
He was visibly screaming at his team in the middle of the 3rd quarter to hurry up. The announcers complained that he wasn't making his team hurry up (as he was doing this screaming on-screen). Now late they're complaining about how he waited far too long before doing that.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
That could be, but if he was in a hurry, then why was he calling a FG in the 2nd half? Why the screen passes and running plays?
I think he was acting like a coach in a hurry, but was not being one.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
I actually think that he was just thinking, "Maybe we can get it together and come back" and screaming then and then when the team didn't respond and couldn't move the ball he gave up and just went through the motions of saying he wanted to hurry. I didn't see him do it in between the middle of the third and the end of the 4th, so he may not have been at all in that time.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Vick is in.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Wow, this has to be a record. A 25-second shot just to hear the Green Bay crowd.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Well, I may have to mute the TV to watch the Vikings-Packers.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
...in madden you can mute the commentators...
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
I heard Collinsworth say that his kids told him they did that to him.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
LMAO!
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Aikman just said the hardest part for [Vikings QB] would be getting dressed in the visitors' locker room. Does that mean he may come out without pants or something? Accidentally wearing Kevin Williams's jersey?
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
So it's the great GB defense. vs the packers offense that did very well against the steelers defense.
I think the GB D will take away the pass. The Vikes will struggle but will take some FGs.
The Packers will do fine against the D, and score 27 points against 16 of the Pack.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Immediately, the officials mess up a fumble call in the Packers' favor. Obviously, this is part of the leaguewide conspiracy against [Vikings QB].
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Gotta love the forward progress rule.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Wow, the Titans are actually playing well against the Jaguars. Maybe putting in Vince Young will work.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
It's a boovation for [Vikings QB].
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Good first series for the Viking defense. I really think it's mostly looked like Jared Allen and 10 other guys this year, but that was a good series.
And, mercifully, [Vikings QB] is being unmercifully booed.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Is the crowd extra loud or are they just playing it louder to make it seem like they are?
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Pretty good first defensive series for the packers.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
The saddest thing about Fox's [Vikings QB] Cam is that I'm sure my father is watching it.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Fox has the Favre cam, which will be on him all day, no matter what. I hope there's a giant dump at halftime in Brett Favre's future.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Must...not...throw...things...at...Jimmy...Football.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
If you throw things at him, he'll use them to make more beer-related products.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
I was more worried about my 42-inch Vizio. But, you're point is well taken.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Rodgers gets crossed up, or his receivers do, and 2 incomplete passes later, punt. Oh and a screen for a loss thrown in for good measure.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
hehe.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
I'm not sure I remember seeing a snap when the QB was so obviously unprepared for it before. A fumble gives the Packers the ball.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
And the Packers promptly blow their opportunity and have to settle for the FG.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
You apparently never saw Akili Smith play, on any snap ever.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Actually, no. I didn't. I'm rather glad about that.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
The Viking defense makes a great stop to force the Packers to kick a field goal. So far, it's a defensive struggle, rather surprisingly.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Great return by Harvin.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
I can't believe he didn't score.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Did you see [Vikings QB] open that hole for Harvin's return? He just does everything on that team!
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Well, since the hardest part of the game for him is getting dressed, that may have been him in Harvin's uniform.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Johnnie Mitchell (part of the SkySports studio team): "[Vikings QB] is doing a great job today just handing off to AP."
Sure takes some amount of talent to hand off to a running back all day. I just don't know how that would work with anybody else in there.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
I think every commentator in the world is getting paid by the number of Favre references they make today.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
[Vikings QB] makes a brilliant move by throwing a screen to Taylor on third-and-five when there's a defender in easy position to make a play. Then, Johnny Jolly of the Packers pulls one of the dumbest moves in football history and head butts Taylor to give the Vikings a first down.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Vikings take advantage of Jolly's stupidity and get the TD on a 4th and goal AD run. 7-3 Vikings.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
What a stupid penalty on Jolly.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
British softie here, but howcome he wasn't ejected for that? What exactly do you have to do to be ejected from the game?
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
I don't know any more. I saw Bradshaw (NYG) throw a punch last week and not get ejected. Maybe you have to sleep with Goodell's wife on the sideline.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
That rule has exceptions in subsection G-1.426 to the fifth power as long as requirements of section 2(a)(5)(B)(iv) subsection 8 are also met, but overall you're right.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Well played.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Punch an official. In the playoffs, twice.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Do both punches need to be on the same official, following the same play, or just in the same game?
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Whoa--Childress shows some balls. And not in the creepy way his beard suggests he would. He goes for it, rightly, on 4th-and-goal on the one and they make it.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
ok. So I throw my tv remote away after jolly makes his boneheaded play, i put the remote back together again, except every button I push comes up a "6." so it goes to channel 666, not available, so thankfully I missed the touchdown dive by the time I fixed the remote.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
Sorry, dude, but LMAO.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
I agree with jayinalaska.
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
fuck you, Vikings QB. You did an awesome job handing the ball to the best running back in the league. I also can't stand jared allen. Good player, but those lame ass celebrations after he makes a play...although it's better than that stupid samurai thing that barnett used to do for the packers
Re: Week 8 Open Discussion Thread
I like Jared Allen. If nothing else, there is the great description of whether there was a schism in the Vikings locker room over the new QB: (I'm going from memory, so it's probably not perfect) "When I heard that I went, 'whoa,' 'cause I thought that was some sort of STD or somethin' and we preach abstinence here."
