Why does QB Sneak work?

I'm sure this is a dumb question, but why is the qb sneak effective?

I would think it would be more effective to give the ball to a running back, a player who is built for running and who also has more forward momentum than a qb on a sneak.

Cause the Qb goes under his line or cam Newton goes over the top but most of the time they just need one yard but before it failed like he Troy jump and got the Qb

If you just need an inch or two, the person who has the ball is irrelevant. It's whether or not the center can move a guy he outweighs by 50lbs. The speed that the QB can just dive forward is more of an advantage than the running back's ability to create extra yards. The extra yards are also not important because all you care about is the first down (or TD at the goalline).
