Faulk Battered, Pats Add Zereoue

If you're a Steelers fan, you have to chuckle whenenver the Patriots fill their roster with former Pittsburgh re-treads like Hank Poteat, Chad Scott, and now Amos Zereoue. Of course, the chuckles quickly turn to tears when you remember that Belichick is Cowher's daddy.

Could BB just add Kordell Stewart as a back up to torment the steeler some more?

Not to mention Mike Vrabel.

Yeah, but I don't even consider Vrabel a re-tread at this point. I mean, the guy has a couple of TD catches in the Super Bowl for cripes sake. There's also Rodney Bailey, Josh Miller, and the Pats are trying out former Steelers safety, Russell Stuvaints. Lost in the Zereoue signing however, is that the Pats had to release Andre Davis.

Zereoue, however, didn't proceed directly to the Patriots from the Steelers.

The fact that he flamed out with another team (Oakland) comforts me somewhat.

Is Slash still the best-punting quarterback in Steelers history?

Maybe the Steelers can sign Davis and begin collectting former Browns receivers the way Denver has on the D-line. Surprised Davis didn't work out with the Pats. Wonder if something else is going on with him.

RE: 6
I've seen some commentary saying receiver is just where there was the most depth.
That makes sense to me.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Davis back on the roster at some point, especially if receivers start to go down like they have in the near past.

you obviously are too young to remember Ed Brown

I think what happened with Andre Davis is Bethel Johnson stopped slacking off in practice. Anyways, don't the Patriots have a good track record with Steelers re-treads? I doubt Famous Amos is going to turn out to be a Vrabel-like coup, but as long as he holds onto the ball, I'm happy.

Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe had a good look at why Davis was released. Click my name below for the article. He went through the team and basically concluded that reciever was the only area with depth. Although I'd have rather had Davis than OL Gene Mruczkowski, who they just re-signed, I'm not the one making the decisions, and for good reason.

Davis would return to the roster if noone else decided to scoop him up. That seems unlikely unless his injury is worse than thought, in which case the Pats wont want him either.

I'll bet you good money that more than Harrison being out, more than Light being out, more than Faulk being out, more than yelling at the Steelers' trainer, the thing that pisses off Bill Belichick the most......is knowing that he gave up a 5th round draft pick for roster churn.

Glenn-
I'm sure he's not happy about it, but he's said on numerous occasions, and any good manager will tell you, you can't consider sunk costs when you make decisions. The 5th is gone, whether Davis could contribute to the team or not. Keeping him because he cost a 5th is only compounding the error.

#9 et all...what about Tom Tupa?

Ryan W. The thing with Scott and Poteat is that if they're your starters, or even nickel you have problems. Poteat was the #7 CB last year, and Scott wouldn't make the active roster with a healthy secondary. At that spot on the depth chart, they're good to have around.

i shudder to think of the soon-to-come worship of Belicheck involving creative uses of the name "Zereoue".

Interesting pickup for the Patriots considering their injuries. Look at these two match-ups. Who's who?

Rush Pass
Yards DVOA DPAR cth % Yds DVOA DPAR
425 -14.3% 0.2 83% 284 18.2% 6.8
638 -17.9% -2.2 73% 440 18.7% 7.8

The first one is Zereoue and the second is Faulk. ok, ok, its 2003 Kevin Faulk when he wasn't backing up Dillon. When Dillon showed up, Faulk's use as a change of pace back blossemed. His stats became:

255 39.8% 11.4 87% 248 46.8% 8.2

Like I said, Interesting...

(P.S., I hate trying to format)

Not to be a conspiract theorist, but I doubt Belichick minds losing a draft pick TOO much...think about all the resigning of our own players we have to do? That's one less draft pick to have to spend money on lol
