I got this e-mail from Benjy: "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." Any similarity to the work of Michael David Smith is purely intentional.

I was going to go off on this writer but I will refrain after seeing his son passed away. Unfortunately, his publisher's website brings up an error when you do a search on the book title. Way to handle the free publicity, Baywood Publishing! Odd, too, is the blurb at the bottom of the column saying the book will be published "this fall." Yet it's not out now. 2006? Dunno.
BTW, gotta say I'm not a fan of the new posting system. I much preferred having the ability to edit my post at the same time as previewing it.
For what reasons were you going to go off on the writer? The DeAngelo hype or his writing style or what?
Check out profootballtalk.com, where they say hall was fired by reebok as an endorser because he wore nikes on monday night. Now, personally nike is a much better quality sneaker than reebok and i will argue that to the grave if any wants to, but hall is going to be out a crap load of money for the next little while. I remember when vince carter left puma for nike and he had to pay nike a bunch of money like a year later. I'm pretty sure hall's deal with nike is nowhere near as big as carters'.
I have mixed feelings. I appreciate that another writer is attempting these types of play-by-play scouting articles. Anything that increases my knowledge about the game and the players is appreciated.
That said, this is a total rip. You just know that the ESPN.com folks looked at MDS's articles on Fox and said, "Man, that's a good idea. We need us some of those. Stick Fleming on it!" Lame, copy-cat crap.
....Lame, copy-cat crap.
Agreed, but unfortunately for FO and Fox, it seems to be lame, copy-cat crap with access to the athlete's scrutinized.
I could be wrong - does anyone know if the quotes from Hall were acquired by Fleming?
Ugh, the word 'athletes' should not have an apostrophe in my previous post.
I hate misused apostrophes, and here I've misused one.
It looks to me like Fleming did talk to Hall; see the bit about the flu shot at the end of the piece.
And I would say that being at the game and having access to the player involved give this piece a different flavor than MDS' work.
The Vikings need offensive line help, while the Bears, Lions, and Packers have significant defensive concerns.
