More info here. According to the Miami-Dade PD, he's in "good" condition after surgery, so at least it looks like it won't be a complete tragedy.

BTW, it's McDougle, not McDougal.

Geez. I'm glad it sounds like he's going to be okay... That's pretty terrible, though.

Man, that's terrible. Shot in the abdomen. Not exactly a flesh wound.

The Philly papers are reporting that he has talked to the team and is up walking around the hospital room.

A) Do not attend the University of Miami

B) If you do attend, the University of Miami never go back to Miami once you leave

Dammit. I put an extra comma in there.

Re #3 Mike I had the exact same thought. Scary stuff. Now that it seems like he'll be alright, I gotta say this sucks for Jerome, he was really working hard this off-season. I was pretty confident this was going to be his breakout year.

Since when is a black man being shot newsworthy?

Can we get post #12 deleted? (And this one, too, then) That's just about the stupidest, most insensitive, racist, jerklike thing I've ever seen someone post.

I guess you can always count on someone to be a jerk to a person he doesn't even know. Jeez. Show some sympathy.

I think post #12 was being facetious, and I think his point is that a black man being shot isn't considered newsworthy by media outlets unless said black man is a celebrity of some sort.

It's not like every white person that gets shot is in the news.

Bleah. It's just reinforcing a racial stereotype. Still kinda ticks me off.

I agree with Pat. The comment is completely inappropriate.

In case you didn't notice this is a Football site. It sometimes reports on news about Football players. Jerome McDougal is a Football player. Race has nothing to do with why this piece is up here. It's very pertinent to the subject of this site. Why rayman felt the need to bring it up in the context of race is unfathomable, especially considering McDougal could have easily been killed.

inre: #12-16, I think rayman was trying to be clever, pointing out that black men in america are shot all the time and it doesn't make the news. Thanks rayman for enlightening us to this...I love my football with a heaping helping of dimestore social commentary.

He'll be released within a week, and can begin football rehab in 4 weeks.

I'm not a doctor, but it seems to me like he has a good chance of playing this year.
