Mike Martz to Take Leave of Absence

Rams coach Mike Martz will miss at least the next six weeks with a heart infection. Developing.

First of all, I hope Martz gets healthy soon. This sounds like a dangerous ailment. Best wishes to him and his family.

Getting past that, I'm not sure what to expect. We've all spent countless hours criticizing this guy's play calling. Does anyone know anything about the OC, Fairchild?

What if Jackson and Faulk start getting more carries? What if the Rams go with a 60/40 or even 55/45 pass/run play ratio?

From a fantasy perspective, I have invested heavily in the STL passing game. I want that crazy guy on the sideline calling 60+ passes everry week, dammit!

P.S. Any chance we get some more details on what Martz is up against in this week's Black & Blue column?

Very interesting development.

I am one of the few Ram fans that acutally defends Mike Martz and thinks he is the right coach for the team. It will be very interesting to see not just the changes in play calling, but also the changes in other phases of the game, particularly special teams. Obviously, I think the team will not improve as a result of Martz's leave of absence. If the team does regress, I'm sure Martz will still be blamed for it though.

Well, beedubyuh, without a defensive secondary, the Rams will be constantly playing catch-up with or without Martz calling the plays and will be forced to try and get points in a hurry. I expect them to continue their pass-happy ways for the foreseeable future.

Actual Martz quote:

"It's over with now but I just feel what happened to me has affected this team, and that breaks my heart."

Personally I think the Rams will do fine. If they could just have Martz' planning and scheming but not have him make game-day decisions they'd be great...

You're the right kind of sinner to release my inner fantasies
The invincible winner, and you know that you were born to be
You're a heartbreaker, dreammaker,
Love-taker, don't you mess around with me

Love-taker, don't you mess around, no no no
