Writers of Pro Football Prospectus 2008

The Next Step

Andrew Perloff used some heavy-duty statistical analysis to try and identify which quarterback will be the next superstar in the NFL. "After spending hours combing through every statistics book I could find, the numbers revealed an overwhelming truth: I couldn't find a trend."

If Andrew can wait until later this summer, he can pick up Pro Football Prospectus 2005, and all his problems will be solved. OK, not all of his problems, but most of the football-related ones, anyway. He still goes on to list which young quarterbacks are poised to have break out seasons and DVOA even gets a mention.

Another factor which might be worth considering as adding to the confusion is that good teams, which are likely to sit their highly-drafted quarterback, are likely to have good coaches. Good coaching might be thought to be a contributory factor in the development of good quarterbacks.
