McNabb, T.O. Love to Text

DJ Gallo's latest documents the secret text message exchanges between Donovan McNabb and Terrell Owens (why didn't I hear about this on PFT?), and follows with a shockingly-allowed-onto-Page-2 Peter King reference.

I haven't read a word of the article yet, but that may be the greatest picture of TO I've ever seen.

Terrell Owens "accidentally" shoves 30 painkiller pills down Drew Bledsoe's throat

LMFAO!

I've never found football players to be all that interesting off the field, in general. Many of them are pleasant people, but that's about it. It's kinda funny to see microphones in front of them all the time, as they are unlikely to say much of anything worth the parsing. It's either "110% effort" and "nobody gave us a chance" locker room banalities, or prancing around and attention whoring and Arrest Announcements. There never seems to be much else.

I immediately grant an exception to this rule for Clinton Portis, of course. Santana Moss offers you his protection.

All that said, Terrell Owens might be among the least fascinating football personages I can think of. He literally never says anything interesting. He's a shameless self promoter, and that's it. I'd pick ten straight Marvin Harrisons or Reggie Waynes or hell, Troy Browns over him.

Owens seems constitutionally incapable of participating in a team sport. It's pathetic to see him still behaving brashly even as his skills diminish.

He's the second best receiver on his team now. He's not going to ever do anything but get worse, in every way.

Re: 3

And nothing could make me happier.

There never seems to be much else.

Well, Brady did reveal his bizarre milkshake-spitting, tire-stealing, filling-car-with-packing-peanuts, "fighting like teenage girls" life with Matt Cassel in his post-game press conference yesterday :-) :-)

Oh, loved the zing at both Saban and Belichick ("Don't tell people you're part of my coaching tree"/"Please try to stay away from my wife").

Where was the PK reference?

"The Steelers have to be very concerned about Ben Roethlisberger. In three games this season he has seven interceptions and zero touchdowns. Even worse, he has a very noticeable "deer in the headlights" look. And I think the "deer in the headlights" analogy works especially well for Roethlisberger because he looks confused and also because he's been hit by a car."

Wow, that totally reminds me of Deep Thoughts. I chuckled my way through the rest of the article.

Are you refering to the "8 thing I think I think"? He does that every week on his Page 2 articles. Unless I missed something?

I don't really read Peter King's MLB bits, but I think this is what the PK reference is:

Eight Things I Thought I Thought While Blaming A-Rod for the Jets' Blowout Loss …

It comes from this:

l. A-Rod's playoff history: 4 for his last 41.

I haven't even read the rest of the article, but that text message conversation was by far the funniest thing DJ Gallo has ever done.

Word on the text message thing. I never laugh out loud! Ah. thanks for that!

Terry Bradshaw was a fairly interesting football player personality I think. I think that football really encourages a drone-like, military, nail that sticks up gets beaten down type of mentality. Not exactly encouraging of Fun things...

This may have been the first time that Gallo referenced something Peter King actually said, but last week's was "Twelve Things I Thought I Thought While Learning Tom Brady's Body as a Second Language... ", which sounds like a Peter King reference as well.

Gallo's "X Things I Thought I Thought While..." has always been a PK reference. He went through a long chain of columns last season where the "while" was always about coffee - "staging a sit-in at Starbucks," etc.

Agree with all of you guys, but my favorite line was
"Struggling Steelers so confused they're not even sure where Jerome Bettis is from anymore".
