Browns Reloading The Schotty?

Our friend MJD gets off the line of, oh, the season when talking about Browns fans worrying about Marty Schottenheimer's playoff record:

A Browns fan saying they don't want Marty Schottenheimer because he can't win a playoff game is sort of like Al Roker refusing to buy a pair of shoes because they won't help him win a gold medal in the 100m dash. It's just not an immediate concern. Let's worry about proper support and orthotics first. Then we can get out the stopwatch.

Good choice, just need a GM that knows his stuff. If the new coach is Schottenheimer, he'll probably keep the offensive coordinator, since Rod Chudzinski was the TE coach at SD. Not sure about the defensive coordinator, but they'll probably keep the 3-4 because of Shaun Rodgers.

Another issue would be do they keep GM Savage or would Schottenheimer take the GM spot? Schottenheimer made comments that he wouldn't mind a front office position if Bill Cowher was head coach. And the plot thickens...

Bill, you are selling yourself short here. Reloading the Schotty is just as good a line if not better.

Marty Schottenheimer=[Insert worst-imaginable insult here]. Don't ask.

It's rather unfortunate that he's really an excellent football coach. However, I think the Browns may be better off with someone else, considering the weapons they have on offense and Jamal Lewis's age.

And yes, "worst-imaginable insult" probably means Matt Millen.

This would be a great move for the Browns. Marty's record as a coach: 200-126.

And how are the Chargers doing since he left?

They won two playoff games (two more than they won during Schottenheimer's entire tenure with the team) and went to the AFC Championship Game. This year thanks to injuries, an incompetent defensive coordinator and one of the worst blown calls ever they're about to be eliminated from the playoffs. Still, better than when he was here.

Also, it's worth noting that the reason he's gone. He didn't like his General Manager, so he disobeyed the owner to get himself fired and paid.

It makes me feel dirty when stories about a coach's replacement are circulating while the guy is still the coach.

No friggin way. I grew up watching Marty ball and the Browns losing to the Broncos and I'd rather suffer through another garbage season in order to get Cowhler (which is bad enough because he comes from the Steelers) than go back to anything that brings Art Modell memories to mind. Excuse me while I throw up.
