I wasn't that familiar with the work of Dan Pires, who passed away Wednesday morning at the age of 52. Judging from what I'm hearing, I missed out. Pires covered many sports (including Patriots football) for the New Bedford Standard-Times, and a friend who runs his own Pats website sent me an e-mail saying, "If there were ever the perfect representative of the sportswriter we all want to be, Dan was it." With all the controversy surrounding Boston sportswriting in the last year, it's a good time to remember a guy who did his job the right way, and didn't run over people to get where he got.
