ESPN's Michael Smith is reporting that the Rams have opted to make Virginia defensive end Chris Long the No. 2 overall selection in the draft. This would be the second year in a row that the Rams have spent a first-round pick on a defensive lineman. (They selected DT/DE Adam Carriker of Nebraska with the No. 13 overall pick last year.) We once again see that the NFL is a copycat league, as teams saw what a dominant four-man rush did for the Giants and try to follow suit.
This also means Atlanta at No. 3 will have the opportunity to pick between Glenn Dorsey and Matt Ryan. Personally, I don't think it makes sense to pick a quarterback at No. 3 and throw millions of dollars his way when your offensive line is just going to get him killed anyway.

Lane Johnson and D.J. Fluker were selected high in the draft, but both have troubling flaws in pass protection according to Word of Muth.

I dont think this shows the NFL is a copycat league at all. If you draft "best available" I think Long, Long, and Dorsey are the best players, and since Jake Long is gone, that leaves 2 defensive linemen. I mean, i think if the best player available were a QB or a saftey or something, they would probably have considered taking them.
Copycat league would have been if Darren McFadden were selected earlier than expected because of Adrian Peterson's success.
"as teams saw what a dominant four-man rush did for the Broncos, Packers, Buccaneers, Panthers, Eagles, Colts and Giants and try to follow suit."
Do the Raiders have a shot at Darren McFadden now? I think they shiuld draft him.
Re 1:
Adrian Peterson didn't really go earlier than expected, a lot people thought he would be the best player in the draft. He went to an unexpected team, but that is a separate issue.
Do the Raiders have a shot at Darren McFadden now?
PFT is reporting that they plan to take him.
And the Falcons taking Ryan at #3 is pretty dumb.
But since when did the Falcons stop making dumb decisions?
If but for that reason alone, I firmly believe the Falcons take Ryan at #3. It's just so dumb they have to do it.
Whoever the Raiders draft you know he is going to be great. This current regime is making great moves all over the roster. I want the Raiders to draft D Mcaffen, K Rivers, or V gholston.
I don't think this is a case of the Rams being copycats. I think this is a case of the fact that the Rams defense is awful.
sorry meant McFadden
The Chiefs would lo-o-ove to see Dorsey available at #5.
Raiders going to have do,minant offense and defense this year.
iM GOING TO BE CELEBRATIN TONIGHTS WITH SIERRA NEVADA AND A COUPLE OF 40S
Raiders reached, shouldve taken Dorsey. Of course Atlanta shouldve too.
What is up with the trades? Maybe its just me but they dont even report what the freaking trades are. I dont even know what happened to the redskins first round pick. Its like they need to have more time for the talking heads to mumble incessantly about the "best available" and to guess who the team is going to pick.
13: Maybe they assume that anyone following the draft is also following on-line and that the people watching are the ones who want to hear from the talking heads.
click my name for the trades.
Chaz Schilens likely to be steal of draft. excllent pickup by Raiders on day 2. Next Marqcues Colston- Wr out of nowhere and to shock league with high number of catches as rookie. J Walker with Drew Carter and Schilens and R Curry and J L Higgins. Lets see that is maybe best Wr tandem in league.
Lets see that is maybe best Wr tandem in league.

Dude. You make me laugh out of my chair.
If they morph into each other like Sadam Hussein and his dog in Hot Shots 2 - those 5 guys would make an excelent tandem.
Wow! I've figured it out! Raiderjoe is actually the Iraqi Minister of Information! Remember him? Now we know where he's been hiding out since "Shock and Awe"...
