Gus Johnson Ringtones

You find strange things on the Internet. I think it's pretty safe to say that, as a collective, FO's favorite play-by-play guy is Gus Johnson.

I found out today that Gus Johnson has his own website. On this website, Gus Johnson sells custom ringtones of him doing the play-by-play of your favorite team winning a championship. Some announcers might half-ass it.

Not Gus.

I'm not sure what my favorite is yet. The "SWEET LIBERTY!" call for Philadelphia was stupendous, though.

Not a fan at all. Stop yelling. It was 3rd and 8 and they got 6 yards. Keep your panties on.

^-- Fan.

I love Gus' calls. It's nice to have fun watching the game (as opposed to "and Tyrell catches it" in monotone. Thanks a lot, Joe Buck).

Sometimes I think Gus Johnson is a little much.

Detroit is as likely to win a Super Bowl as I am to sleep with Claudia Black.

I still got goosebumps listening to the Lions ringtone.

Of course, it sounds a lot better just once. The 100th time I played it, not the same. And it would probably be better with an NFL license (Super Bowl, player names) ...

And of course no Purdue football. I feel like this is the '90s all over again. (Back then, IIRC, games like Super Play Action Football used alternate names for Notre Dame and such too. Not sure why, the town was Notre Dame back then anyway.)

You know, Gus just calling the receiver a wide open rookie is kind of funny in it's own right. I'm sad to see Millen gone, so much less comedy, and a division rival that has no where to go but up.

The Illinois football one is pretty good. Champaign for everyone.

Please, PLEASE do not encourage Gus Johnson. A 22-yard field goal by a team down 41-7 elicits a cataclysmic eruption (HE SPLIIIIIIITS THE UPRIGHTS!!!!!!!!). Joe Buck has the right idea - let the game speak. Everything else is head-inducing claptrap or over-reahearsed John Sterling nonsense.

I'd rather err on Gus Johnson's side than Joe Buck's.

Inexcusable on Buck's part. Troy Aikman was almost apologizing for Buck's failure to grasp the moment. Marv Albert, Gus Johnson, Kevin Harlan... people like them because they get excited when we get excited.

I loved Pat Summerall, and he was very calm, minimalist, let the game speak for itself. But Joe Buck is not only too calm, he's emotionless and makes us wonder if the big moment we saw really was as big as we thought it was. We don't need to be told, but it's nice for the announcer to react appropriately. He thus fails at the main part of his job.

Joe Buck will tell you that when you're calling a TV broadcast you let the game speak for itself. People can see the play so they don't need you telling them how awesome it was. Obviously Marv on radio would have to spice it up a bit.

But screw Joe Buck, Gus Johnson is the man.

What is inexcusable, I don't like Buck at all, but he appeared to be doing a great job in that clip, specifically doing exactly what he is paid to do. When Buck is insufferable is when he editorializes. When he just sticks to his job he is the best in the business.

As for Gus Johnson, he is fun once or twice a year, but otherwise completely over the top and sickening. Sort of like Peeps...

Gus Johnson overreacting to a field goal > Joe Buck overreacting to a fake mooning.

Hmmm... you guys like Gus Johnson? At least I don't dislike him anywhere near as much as I hate Randy Cross.

Didn't Aaron post something about this recently? Maybe it was Simmons a little while back?

I didn't go to Gus Johnson's webpage on my own.

The Packer tone is all about the "old man" and if he has one more left in him. He also refers to the "gunslinger".

So either it needs some updating or it is not intended to be relevant for about 15 years.
