The North County Times is reporting that Eric Parker's likely to be cut or traded by the team in the next 72 hours. The Chargers already have Buster Davis, Vincent Jackson, and Chris Chambers at wideout, although none of them really have the skillset Parker does. Davis would likely be the closest player, although he had an uneven rookie year.
There are a lot of teams who would find it worthwhile to deal a late-round draft pick for Parker in lieu of waiting for him to be cut and running the risk of losing him. Philadelphia immediately comes to mind, as does Chicago.
Hat tip, as usual, to MDS at PFT.
UPDATE: The Chargers have reportedly cut Parker.

Mike and Tom play nice for once and highlight a few commercials that made them smile. Plus: prop bet results, the FO Staff Playoff League, and the results of our first ever Playoff Fantasy Challenge!

Whether he'd come or nor I don't know, but Miami could use a decent WR. But then Miami could use a lot of things.
I vaguely remember that he had a pretty good season in 2006. Given the current options at WR, I'm wondering if he might look pretty good in Seahawk blue . . .
Coltrane: Should happen, but won't. Ruskell's very invested in Branch's recovery and the receivers he's drafted. Last I heard, the Browns are looking at Parker to replace Jurevicius.
He's going to the Chiefs so he can feast on San Diego's D twice a year!
He's going to go to either denver or kc. both teams are in perpetual need @ wr and he would get the chance to torch his old team.
regardless of the division it always seems that when againg stars or 'b level talent' is released they usually go to a division rival. parker would fall into the 'b level' category.
"Torch" his old team? Really? You expect a slot receiver to torch the Bolts? Good luck to any slot receiver not named Welker.
Thanks, but no thanks. The Eagles have enough skinny, decent-but-nothing-special #3 WRs cluttering up the locker room as it is.
I could easily see Parker with Denver. I would like the Bears to go after him, but I don't think it's going to happen.
Sad, Parker is a beast when healthy--routinely puts up 70% catch rates. The most underrated WR in the league over the last few seasons
#7: If you define "decent" as "league-average," the Eagles have one decent #1, one decent #2, and a several very good #3s (by DYAR).
Most fans want a dominant #1, which they don't have.
Going from a decent #1 to two decent #1s might be helpful, but I think Parker's skillset is different enough from Reggie Brown's that it would probably be either a downgrade or just a wash.
There are a lot of teams that could use a guy who catches 70% of his targets and can be a good #3 or a decent #2 in a pinch. Just off the top of my head:
Chicago, Minnesota, Carolina, maybe Tampa (Galloway and Hilliard are old), Atlanta, maybe Philly, Seattle, San Francisco in the NFC. Cleveland, Baltimore, maybe Jacksonville, Tennessee, Houston, Buffalo, Miami, Denver, Kansas City, and (let's be honest) Oakland in the AFC.
That's 15 teams that would be stronger with Parker on the roster, plus 3 maybes.
As a Tampa fan, I'd be perfectly happy to have him join the Bucs. More than perfectly happy, actually. He can come to the team and Michael Clayton can go back to what he does best, which apparently involves a lot of cheeseburgers.
11. Go ahead and add Dallas to that list-- the Terry Glenn has yet to be resolved.
The Jets could use at least one receiver over 5' 10"
I really don't see him headed to Denver. They've already brought in a ton of WR's, and they've got Brandon Stockley for the slot. Eddie Royal may be backing him up there as well.
11: Raiderjoe should be posting (or pisting, as he would say) shortly to dispute that Oakland could use Parker. After all, he has already stated in another thread that the Raiders have "fix[ed] WRs corspe." Maybe he needs some more Sierra Nevada before he is ready to comment.
fan in exile i agree completely. You can take Denver right off this list. As of now they have i think 6 or so wideouts fighting for a roster spot. I would be shocked to see them add an other receiver.
re11
Is poster drunk? Raiders dont need any more Wrs. Team has good corpe of WRs now. R Curry, D Carter, Higgins, Schilens (sleeper rookie of year; good chance to put up Colston #s), Shields and some others are all good (team might also unearth gem from the rookie free agent Wrs on rosster). Also T end Zach Millr great up and cominger. JaMarcus Russell to throw many passes to way of Miller. Good chance Miller catch 90 balls in 2008. He had 44 catches last year with crap Qbs J McCown and Culppeper throwing to him. He now has real Qb throwing balls to him. When Russell start Week 17 game Miller caught 8 passes for 84 yards.
Eric Parker not type of guy Raiders need.
I wish they wouldn't cut him, but it's good if they can trade him. I'd rather see them dump Malcom Floyd (another guy who could totally play #3 on a lot of teams). I can't conceive of the spectacular versatility that guy would provide to the Chargers... LaDainian, Gates, Chambers, Jackson, Naanee, Davis, Manumaleuna... dare I mention Kassim Osgood? It's not like they need him, but my that's a loaded arsenal.
But if they can get a 5th-rounder or something (or trade up next year), well, they'll take it and that's just smart. It means they can trade Merriman for something ridiculous and let Cro go in FA, and save a fortune in cap space (assuming there IS a cap).
Tampa Bay?
I thought Eric Parker was a WR. He's plays QB too?
Well, they cut him and didn't get anything for it. Shame. He would have been a killer #5 WR on the Chargers, and could totally have started for a team like Jacksonville or Tennessee.
RE: 13
Parker would go along with Dallas' general strategy of acquiring difficult to develop skill position players (QB and WR) either through the second day (Romo, Crayton, Hurd), or through free agency (TO, Glenn), but paying Parker would require that they flat out cut Glenn. You can't expect him to be any better than Crayton (probably noticeably worse), and his salary would probably be too hefty for a #3. But, the way Dallas has been planning for an uncapped year in 2009, they might go Yankees, and pay him the money anyway.
Forgot to mention, Jason Garret's offense is based on Norv Turner's, so Parker probably would be able to get up to speed fairly quickly.
@23: Parker never played in Turner's offense. He was IR in '07 -- Parker did however fit nicely into the world of Martyball.
If he recovers fully (big if), he's a pretty reliable player. I'd think a team with questions about its slot receiver or quarterback would do very well with a skilled player like Parker. He's not exactly a YAC-machine, and he's not fast enough for a deep ball, but the Jets, Ravens or Chiefs would do very well with him to provide a safe checkdown for a novice or error-prone QB or help a short-passing veteran maintain a good rhythm. The Broncos might also be there: they're very shallow at WR, and Parker would get lots of play-time, especially if Clady doesn't start well and Cutler doesn't get time to go deep. The Jags and Titans have shallow WR squads, but a lot of the Jags' receiver problems are in speed, and Parker's not much help there. I don't think Parker/Young sounds great, as Young's mobility limits the value of a short-range possession receiver.
Da Beers. Almost forgot. Want Rex to look good? Give him a guy who won't screw up. If that doesn't do it, cut him.
