Four-time Pro Bowler Willie Anderson, cut by the Bengals last week, has signed with Baltimore. What's most interesting about this is the way he openly buried his old club on the way out the door: "They didn't cut me because I couldn't play. They cut me because I said I didn't want to play there anymore. After 13 years, you get tired of dealing with non-football issues."

Offensive line problems highlight the needs in the NFC North ... except in Chicago, which is kind of unsettling to think about.

If the Bengals cut everyone who didn't want to play there anymore, they wouldn't be able to field a team. Sounds like sour grapes to me.
I'll ignore the drama and get to the impact: its definitely a huge plus for the Ravens. Anderson isn't elite at this point, but the Raven's backup tackles were beyond awful this preseason.
If Anderson pushes Terry out of the RT spot and to the bench, that means the Ravens will have a good starting 5 and two starting-caliber OL on the bench who, between them, can play all 5 OL positions (Terry is a natural LT, and Chris Chester plays G and C). That should allow the younger guys drafted this year to develop and not be forced into game action too early.
I said on the Bengals cuts thread that you can count on Anderson being signed BEFORE the regular season started.
re3 Craug
I saw you wrote that post . Very good jobb by you to write that as it came true..
I am dronking the Pacifico beer tonight. Do you like the Raiders chances to repeat?
If get a chancneb please tell us what your preidcitions are for seaosn as you seem to be intellignet psoiter.
We can only hope 'Criag' or 'Craug' responds. :-) I'm going to get some Pacifico Sunday and toast you raiderjoe.
Well I for one think the Raiders have a truly excellent chance to repeat.
6: I'll dronk to that.
Has RaiderJoe gone Joe Morgan / Bill Fremp on us?
#8 He's either very drunk or it's not actually Raiderjoe. Time will tell.
Thanks Raiderjoe. I only posted that because Schatz suggested he was washed up.
As for the Raiders there are some positives. They have the best CB tandem in the NFL, Burress is a stud DE, and the running game should be good. But you have to pass the ball to win in this league, and when your FA #1 WR wants to pay $11M to not play, it can't be a good sign. I predict 3rd place behind the Chargers and Broncos.
thanks, Criag. I think 2nd or 1st place will be Raiders result.
To other posters- was veryd runk on 9/5/2008 when made other post in thraed. Had finished Madden season with Raiders winning Super bowl 43 in Tampa. Must have had real foiotball and Madden mixed up in my head while extremeluy drunk.
Returning to Willie Anderson for the moment, there sure seems to be some bad blood there.
When asked about Willie Anderson playing for the Ravens Marvin Lewis said "If he's standing in a T-shirt, that's how I've seen him."
Ouch! That's a very snippy comment from a coach on any former player, let alone a guy like Willie Anderson who's been a mainstay.
