Think every rumor you've read about who might be Notre Dame's next football coach is unsubstantiated speculation? At least one was created as a hoax just to see how far it could spread with a simple email and a tweet. No media outlet is spared in the ND blog Blue Gray Sky's detailed account.

Re: Notre Dame: Anatomy of a Rumor
This right here is absolutely the worst thing about college football in the Internet age. Even worst in the SEC where false rumors of recruiting violations (especially from sad Auburn fans) crop up way too much.
Re: Notre Dame: Anatomy of a Rumor
Simply hilarious. The only way to get the media and blogging back in check is to have more of these shenanigans.
Re: Notre Dame: Anatomy of a Rumor
and abandon Twitter like a plague infested ship
Re: Notre Dame: Anatomy of a Rumor
About the only way to improve it would have been if the rumored coach going to Notre Dame was....
Bobby Bowden, after having a talk with Brett Favre.
Re: Notre Dame: Anatomy of a Rumor
Bwha ha ha, this is excellent. I have no qualms about CFT posting it up (they unashamedly deal in rumours), but the other sites getting caught out not doing proper research? Priceless.
The amazing thing is that reputable* journalists are using twitter/internet/blogs as ways of verifying what is on one another, yet they really are all too close to one another to rely on them.

Is it possible for Weis to come across as more of an a-hole?
Re: Notre Dame: Anatomy of a Rumor
All right. I just off the phone with Weis. He's going to be the Pats' OC next year, they're going to draft Golden Tate with the high pick they tricked Al Davis into trading (for Richard Seymour, who will return to Foxboro next year), and Davis and Belichick are planning to swing a three-team deal (while the Browns' GM is drunk) that lands Brady Quinn and Wes Welker in Oakland, Jamarcus Russell and Lawrence Maroney in Cleveland (enraging Mangini), and three Raider DBs plus Cleveland's first-round pick go to New England, which drafts Jimmy Clausen as Brady's heir apparent. In an unrelated move, Dan Snyder will offer Mike Vick a $50m free-agent deal.
Re: Notre Dame: Anatomy of a Rumor
Huh. I was thinking Snyder would throw his money at Reggie Bush (after cutting Portis), but Vick makes some sense too. Maybe he will go after both.
