As part of our promotional efforts for Football Outsiders Almanac 2009 (still the top-selling football book at Amazon.com), we're happy to announce that we've teamed up with the fine folks at SB Nation to do interviews with many of their NFL team blogs discussing the book and its findings for those teams in closer detail.
Many of those blogs will be running their interviews with us today, August 14. We'll be linking each of those blog entries below as they come in throughout the day for your perusal.
Also, many thanks to Dave Halprin (of Blogging the Boys fame) and Chris Mottram (of Mr. Irrelevant infamy) for helping to put this together.
Here are some links we missed yesterday.
Dallas (Bloggin' the Boys)
New England (Pats Pulpit; for those curious, the FO writer giving his opinion on you know what is Seahawks fan Doug Farrar.)
Seattle (Field Gulls)
Kansas City (Arrowhead Pride), where we make fun of Turk McBride for sport.
San Diego (Bolts From The Blue), where they don't totally understand what we're saying, but seem to like it anyway.
Detroit (Pride Of Detroit), which actually has a really funny nerd joke in the comments.
Arizona (Revenge of the Birds), for an interview that will yield a great comment thread. I am sure of it.
Miami (The Phinsider), where they really did ask five good questions.
Philadelphia (Bleeding Green Nation), for an interview that is totally overshadowed.
Cincinnati (Cincy Jungle), for an interesting interview with Robert Weintraub.
Green Bay (Acme Packing Nation): We finish up our interview with three more questions about A.J. Hawk, short-yardage situations, and the secondary.
San Francisco (Niners Nation): We evaluate the concept of statistical analysis and what it means for the 49ers.
Tennessee (Music City Miracles): Is DVOA ruined by strategic expectation bias?
Cleveland (Dawgs By Nature): Talking about why the Browns' defense needs to stay healthy, and partitioning out the blame that belongs to Brandon McDonald.
Green Bay (Acme Packing Company): A five part series, with that link being for an analysis of the pass defense; Part 2 has a discussion of the changes on the offensive line.
Jacksonville (Big Cat Country): An excellent interview from last week with Doug Farrar covering converting to the 3-4, the development of Reggie Nelson, the Jags' draft class, and other topics.
Minnesota (The Daily Norseman): An interview with long-time FO readers/friends covering the Vikings' various roster issues.
National (Mocking The Draft): A discussion with SBN's Draft Blog regarding our methodologies and projecting college statistics.
New York (Gang Green Nation): Sean McCormick breaks down the Jets' performance in close games, the switch from Mangini to Ryan, and Mark Sanchez's franchiseness.
Tampa Bay (Buc 'Em): Rob Weintraub's analysis of special teams, Michael Clayton's TV habits, and how to win bar bets.
Washington (Hogs Haven): Our talk with SBN's Redskins blog discusses Jason Campbell's sack rate, weasel words in describing players, and the addition of Brian Orakpo.

Who had the most Defeats in 2012? Well, nearly setting the all-time sack record puts you in a pretty good position to claim that crown.

Re: FOA 09 MEDIA: The SBNation Takeover
Since no one on the Canal St. Chronicles Saints blog has asked some questions, I will here in the comments:
1. Why so down on the Saints projection?--The (printed) version of FOA, on p. xiii (last sentence of Pythagorean Projection in Statistical Toolbox) says that this suggests improvement, at least record-wise, from the Saints.
2. One of the best offenses in the league returns intact--except Shockey, Colston, & Bush were injured last year. Shouldn't their offense be BETTER--esp. considering that Pierre Thomas, who ranked 11th in rushing DYAR, 4th in rushing DVOA, 6th in receiving DYAR, & 5th in receiving DVOA should have an increased role? BTW--any reason PT is expected to have SIX fumbles? (He had 1 in practically as many touches between 07& 08)
3. Robert Meachem is expected to have a 32%!!! catch rate. Please tell me that it is an error.
4. A little unhappy that there was no DVOA by week graph for the Saints. Have it for all teams or for none.
5. Why the drop in completion percentage for Brees?
6. If they have the 29th hardest sched (i.e, 4th easiest), why are they projected for only EIGHT wins? I see 4-2 in the division, + Det, Stl, Jets; split at Buf/Mia; split NE/NYG at home; and prob. Dallas at home. That equals 10-6. Am I missing something? What are the trends that counteract the potentional uptick from PYTHAG?
Re: FOA 09 MEDIA: The SBNation Takeover
Hey Joseph... We like to keep all the fans happy, especially down there in the NFC South -- a division where we definitely need more readers -- so I'll try to get to your questions in an "FO Mailbag" post sometime next week. When I do, make sure to go link it on some Saints message boards! Mmm... promotion.

I can't wait until this sarcastic prick has to eat his words
"Great Article
I especially liked the last answer.
Lets ignore those lucky playoff wins and count games that were played when the Cards had nothing on the line to make your prediction.
Also lets forget that this lucky team got within seconds of winning the Superbowl with virtually the same squad returning except getting younger and better at the key areas of RB, DL and CB.
Then lets assume that KW with all the weapons at his disposal will get worse because he is 38 simple as.
Oh yeah if Fitz misses a few games we’re screwed – he is only one player the last time I looked.
They use stats really well in most of that article and then loads of ifs and buts in the last piece.
And don’t get me started on DRC being over rated !!!!
I need a pint – Mr Guinness you are my savour!

*sigh* C'mon Bolts From the Blue, you're embarrassing your fellow Chargers fans.
