Not exactly a thorough or up-to-date study, is it?

For those not clicking, it looks at the cardiac death rates in LA for the 14 days after the 1980 and 1984 Super Bowls, and compares them to the cardiac death rates on other days between 1980 and 1988.

I can think of lots of other variables that need to be controlled...

Variables? Controls? Pffft. REAL scientists don't need well designed studies. They can just wing it. I'm imagining Rex Grossman in a lab coat. Swoon.

Plus, half of the study is on the Raiders. I mean, that kind of invalidates the whole thing right there, right?

since a similar goofy study claims wife beating peaks on Super Bowl Sunday, perhaps the stress of that is actually to blame.

I believe that about as much as I believe spousal abuse peaks when the moon is full. You would think there would be less wife beating on Super Bowl Sunday, what with the men being busy watching the Super Bowl.
